A-Z of Me (Part 3)

United Kingdom

Hello people. I wasn't sure if I'd have chance to do this today but I have a little time so here I am. :) I've done five letters at a time so I shall continue with that pattern. Today, it is the turn of K to O. K is for Knaresborough. I mentioned a favourite place (Cardiff) in a previous post and Knaresborough is another of my favourite places. It is in Yorkshire in the North of England. I visited a few years ago and would love to return. It's quite a small town but very beautiful. It holds historic interest in the form of its castle, a viaduct, medieval streets, and Mother Shipton's Cave. There is a story about Mother Shipton who was, supposedly, a witch. There's also the 'petrifying well' which is part of the Cave as a tourist attraction. The well was the first English tourist attraction to charge an entrance fee, open since 1630. L is for Linguistics. It's also for language, logophile, lexicology, and other words relating to language. I studied language and linguistics, and have always had an interest in such things. I currently teach English (as well as maths) as a private tutor. Sometimes I love it, other times it's frustrating! It does, however, make me appreciate how complicated language can be at times. M is for Mother. Of course, I have one of those. She is on here. You might know her as @nannacrocodiles . I am a mother myself, as I mentioned before. I do talk about my children a lot and that is because, although I am a lot of things and do a lot of things, my most important job is as a mum to my boys. Not that they need me so much any more! I try to be a good mum and, considering how the boys are turning out, I think I must be doing something right. :) I am very proud of both of them but, do you know what? I did that. I've been told I am lucky to have such lovely children. Up to a point, perhaps, but they didn't become the polite, loving, hard working boys they are through sheer good fortune. N is for Nephews and Nieces. I've wondered if there is a word to describe nephews and nieces together. I mean, mums and dads are parents, brothers and sisters are siblings, grandfather and grandmother are grandparents, cousins are all just cousins, but there is, as far as I know, no word to join aunts with uncles or nephews with nieces. Anyway, I am auntie to three nephews and two nieces. Well, one niece and two nephews of mine plus one of each of D's (and another sort of niece). His niece is 18, nephew is 13. My boys, being similar ages and having some similar interests, get on with them well but we don't see them very often as it's difficult to get the chance when everyone is available. I have my big nephew who is 23. I don't see him much either for the same reason but I did spend some time with him last weekend when I took him clothes shopping, and he bought me lunch. Then there are the little ones. Little nephew is 6, little niece is 4. Little nephew is very good with numbers and seems to like school. He doesn't talk much but little niece does! She is also quite bossy but she's so adorable about it. Then the 'sort of' niece, I don't know a lot about her. I've not met her (I don't think D has either) as she lives in a different country. I know she and her mum like watching ice hockey and they support the Pittsburgh Penguins. O is for Old. I'm not old but there are times when I feel it. Today, for example, when I asked Mini to look in my purse to see if I had any stamps. He asked what a stamp looks like. Of course, it hadn't occurred to me that he hasn't really used them. I write letters sometimes but he has grown up with always having social media, email, everything online and not really having a lot of reason to use the post (even when we have done, it's been for online purchases where the postage is printed on). I think the last time I felt old was when one of the boys asked me what a video was (or a cassette tape, I can't remember which now - because I'm old!). I also feel old at times when I get tired or achey after doing something or when I catch myself thinking of sensible, grown up things! Of course, I am childish sometimes because, in the words of the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) "there's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx That's about all for today. Smell you later peeps.
