So Mylot, as you know, I have already shared two of my embarrassing secrets with you.   So now I will give you another humiliating secret, though I don't know if it counts as a "pleasure" per se. My third possibly humiliating secret is that I do not have a smart phone. Yup, I'm one of the few. I have a (non-smart) cell phone.  When I lived in a bigger city I had a cheap phone plan and a smart phone.  After I moved to a smaller town, even though it was only 20 miles away - I found that not only did I not get the wireless internet, I did not get basic phone service up here. As it turns out - the only smart phones that work up here require the highest cost of providers in the area.  And having a smart phone simply is not worth $100 x month to me.  And for the most part it works out.  The only time I really miss the smart phone is in the case of  navigation.  For other on-the-go purposes I still have my old smart phone, which works with Wi-Fi  which most places around here offer now. * If you enjoy these posts, please click the green "guilty pleasures" box in the top left. Looks like I'm not the only one:

I only bought a smart phone to be able to cash out a certain site...but personally they are overrated. I don't really need one nor am I dependent on it.My most frequently used phone is a Tattoo.

I agree. When I had one it seemed like they tried to do what a computer can, only slower and more difficult. Is the Tattoo a phone style, or brand?

@FayeHazel - If I could afford one, I'd get an Indian.

I was hoping it would show a picture of the big biker man who wrote the article I linked to - that, with my guilty pleasures title would have hilarious. As far as that goes - I don't mind a nice Harley or other motorcycle ride. I want to get my endorsement so I can drive one

I am longing for the day when I can dump the cell phone altogether--smart and dumb--but for that to happen, I will need to retire first as I use it to schedule lessons all the time--did you know that flip phones are now retro and cool again?

I can understand why you don't use your smartphone. I'd be lost without mine.

@FayeHazel I can't go anywhere in Florida without mine. I'm not used to all the roads and towns we visit.

We have a mobile for emergency use but rarely even take it with us. So maybe we're two of a somewhat exclusive group. I'm thinking if I got one I might be able to myLot while we're travelling later this year.

@FayeHazel They're great for emergency. Vince had his mobile on him after he dropped me at the dentist's yesterday - in case I needed to ring him (I've no idea why I would but he was being kind). I didn't tell him I can't remember the number but then he thought to ask.

@FayeHazel - "but for now you keep flippin' and I'll keep sliddin'" for some reason that made me blush

I loved the flip phone that I had. Nice to meet another no-smart phone-er. :-) Me too, I assume one day the "Einsteinium" phone (love that wording btw) - will become the standard with no other option, but for now you keep flippin' and I'll keep sliddin'

There was a time that I didn't have a mobile phone at all. Most peaceful two years in my life.

It's not smart at all to pay a $100 a month just to have a smartphone..

Having no smartphones means more meaningful if not fun conversations with your friends and family.

Trust me, you definitely aren't the only one without a smartphone. I have one, but I know plenty of people who don't. Because once you become independent and a certain age, you realize its better to have cheap than cool and overthe top.

I can live without a smartphone - but I must have my laptop. The two things I would miss on my smartphone would be the camera and whatsapp .
