I Can't Sleep, so Got up to be Productive in Some Way

No sense in laying around in bed for several hours and then falling asleep right before needing to get up for the day. I was going to go to bed early, but waited until just before eleven. I slept fine until about three o'clock. After trying to sleep for a bit, I finally got up.
I'm more of a night owl than an early bird, although waking in the middle of the night isn't as rare right now as normal. I think it's because I'm not as active and therefore maybe I don't need as much sleep.
It would be a great time to go through papers to eliminate my stacks, but if I turn on my lights it will wake my husband and daughter, so right now I'm working in a dark room on my desktop computer.
So, good morning all you early birds out there in mylot land. I'll probably try to sleep again around five am. Maybe I'm excited as we're vehicle hunting today.

If I awaken at 3 AM I know I'm not going to get much sleep after that. A half hour earlier or later and I can fall back to sleep. A girlfriend told me what her mother had suggested.
Drink a large glass of water just before going to bed. You will need to get up before 3. It does seem to help.

I was up at to for the bathroom break already. Then just woke up out of the blue at three. I stayed up until about five am and then went back to bed and made myself sleep. I slept in until a little after nine. My husband is at an appointment and then will return to take me looking for cars.

I have this sleep pattern from years. I usually go to sleep around 11 PM and then I wake up from 3:30 to 4:00 AM and I am unable to get my sleep back. I never take naps during the day and I am pretty active, I suspect I only need a few hours of sleep.

@MarshaMusselman I try not to nap even when I am really tired from not sleeping well the night before because it makes it harder for me to sleep that night.

@shaggin There are days that I could sleep half the day and then again all night long. Maybe I can't do that as much right now since I'm not working, but normally I don't get enough sleep all the time. I need to break away from my chair once in a while and the recliner seems the best other option. Rather than only reading, sleeping is another option for me.

That may easily be the case. The problem is when I've not slept good at night and then nap a bit the next day to make up for it. I have been trying to get a bit of a walk in some days and going to the gym twice a week too to get me more exercise. I finally had a great night's sleep two nights ago, but then last night it was harder to get comfy again. I stayed in bed, just had to rearrange my position too often.

I tried to take a nap in the day, but was chilly and couldn't quite get to sleep. Now I almost feel like heading to bed, but I know that if I did, I surely would wake up too early again, so I'll make myself wait a few hours.

@DianneN I at least slept through the night and didn't even try to take a nap today, so I should be okay for tonight too. Especially since I went to Planet fitness for about thirty minutes to use a few of their machines.

Mylot is a good way to while away those hours when you don't get sleep. I try to read books too. What type of a vehicle are you all hunting for.?

Something where we can put ladder onto a ladder rack on top. We found a Chevy a sort of a crossover suv but I think the roof was too small to hold many ladders. We found an older minivan, a 2005. A bit older than we wanted but there aren't a lot of used cars around like there used to be years ago. I have it in my driveway as we bought it yesterday. It will take us four years to pay for it unless I can pay extra after next January.

When I have problems sleeping, I normally get up and get on the computer. Just as soon as I do, I get sleepy again.

My husband gets antsy if he wakes up and realizes I'm up too early and then he can't sleep, so I usually just lay there awake, but that night I needed and wanted more sleep and thought that might be the better way.

As I am responding to this post it is 2.30 pm here. Just up from my siesta. I do bump into a few who have odd sleeping hours such as you. My consolation that I am connected to the other part of the world that should be actually sleeping

I thought I'd see some people out and about that I normally don't run into at these hours, but I was surprised to mainly see those I already hang out with. I did get four more hours once I got back in bed.

I don't toss and turn at present, there's too much rearranging of pillows to allow for that. I did get back to sleep again though. Odd thing is, I didn't take any naps yesterday, but I didn't get any extra exercise either.

We found something, I'm just hoping we didn't get in over our head. The vehicle is in great condition and we'll be able to add some cross bars to the rack to hold our ladders on top. We won't be able to carry as many as we've done in the past, but we don't use them all the time anyway. It was about one thousand more than we wanted to pay.

Yes I was. I got back to bed around five am and slept in until nine, except for a potty break and hearing my husband's alarm.

Our tv is no longer hooked to anything and it's too noisy anyway, I'd wake everyone up if I wanted to hear it.

@MarshaMusselman It is so helpful to me in the night. I turn it on so low that I can barely hear it. It has to be a familiar show to work.

Knowing that you are going to do something you want to do the next day can make it hard to sleep. I use to go to bed around 1 or 2 a.m. I tried to switch to a day schedule, trying to go to bed at 11 p.m. or 12 midnight, but I would also get up after about 4 hours. Then I would get up and get tired around noon. That didn't work very well.

Yes, anything that's new or exciting the next day will affect my sleep. I also pretty regularly wake up through the night. I usually don't sleep well unless I'm truly exhausted. I do use the time sometimes like going on the computer and doing some things I need to do or enjoy doing. They say it's bad though as the screen and lights will wake up your inner clock even more! Oh well!
