Some Rhyme, But Where's the Reason ? - Back a time or two I put together my first "Dumb Poem" book and, with it, the publisher went straight out of business. So, what did I do next? I put the book onto a website and gave it away to anyone dumb enough to want some "dumb poems." The next thing to happen was that the website went out of business. Today, it is my true belief that we Mill Otters (My Lotters) are not dumb - not dull-witted - not about to let MyLot go out of business. Really. That I believe. But I have grown a little more cautious in my old age. I am not going to place the entire "Dumb Poem" book onto this website. Instead, I will sneak up on things and stick a single "dumb poem" into a posted discussion and, if nothing bad happens then, I will do it again, and probably even again. We shall see what we shall see. With each one will go the image that came with it the first time around - that was when publishers failed and websites cratered as they did. My old buddy, Al Kaeppel, made those pen and ink sketches to go with most of the "dumb poems." Tell you the truth - I liked Al's sketches better than I liked my own "dumb poems." Here's the first of the "dumb poems" that I set aside - just for you. Mort If people ever ask you about a bug named Mort, just tell them Mort is all front teeth, and eats like its a sport, or that he eats peppers, green and red, while they're still on the vine, and, with grapes, he's truly gluttonous, leaving none to squeeze for wine, and that gamblers give odds (ten to one) against whole fields of rutabagas, for, when Mort arrives, it's down they go like tourists' coins in old Las Vegas, further, peaches, carrots, sprouts, and okra are chomped by Mort in his eating war, while bug sprays make Mort laugh out loud as he eats on through ten farms or more. Yes, you could say all that and much more, too, if you'd stand and talk all day, but, being brief is your best bet (for maybe Mort craves meat today). Image - Sketch by Al Kaeppel for "Mort"

@sherryericha - Well, I don't particularly like bugs, but I DO like "Mort." He is my kind of bug... -Gus-
