After unification the Berlin wall so to say became a relic but rather than preserving it was brought down and sold as memorabilias for tourists, available in shops Today the Berlin Wall can be found all over the globe. Parts of the wall that are still there are defaced by sticking chewing gum by tourists. Looks like a piece of art though Have you been there and did you stick chewing gum too? This link has more details
Long seen as a hero in the struggle that culminated in fall of communism, capitalism is playing a role in the Berlin Wall's demise.

I guess at the time people just wanted to tear it down and get rid of it! It's only in hindsight that they think it should have been preserved as a piece of history.

Oh wow. This reminds me of a wall in San Luis Obispo up north . . . Bubblegum Alley. But that wall doesn't have historical significance like the Berlin Wall. Out here, we do have a piece of the Berlin Wall, but no one is allowed to get too close to it. There is security and cameras all over the place.
Perched atop a hill with sweeping views of the southland, the Reagan Library is one of California's most beautiful and unique destinations. View Air Force One, recreations of the White House's Oval Office, a piece of the Berlin Wall, and many more.

@allknowing It's good that this piece of history has found many homes throughout the world. But it's sad that that piece of it had gotten gum ridden.

That is what I said in my post. The Berlin Wall has found a place in the whole world.

I have never been to Berlin and never heard of people sticking chewing gum on the historic wall. That's stupidity. May hate the wall so this act of sticking chewing gum shows their hatred towards it.

that's just insulting putting bubble gum over there. People don't care history anywhere but i didn't expect to have that happeneing over there.

It is amazing how it could catch up that so many took part in this activity.

We would not stick chewing gum on anything, but some people are strange.

I was in school when the Berlin wall came down. . . I few days after the event I grabbed a load of rubble from the back of my garden and started to sell it to my schoolfriends as official chunks of the wall. I made a small fortune!

@MALUSE Oh a few of the teachers asked - my cousin worked for the BBC at the time and I claimed he was over there covering the story! :)

I have visited Berlin long ago, and the wall was not covered of gums. I think that covering the pieces left with gums is like covering the Parisian bridges with locks, an act of vandalism showing how some people are stupid.

It was hated as it divided the people. But sticking chewing gum to it is something I had not heard and seen.
