What is your favorite music genre?

Music is a huge part of my life. I learned early on that I can use music to affect my feelings. If I need to cry, for example, there are CDs I can play that will bring me to tears alleviate that pressure. It's like a little miracle. But lately, I've come back to Classical music. I can't get enough. I have it on when I'm reading. It doesn't interfere with the story, but sometimes adds to the background. I have it on now, while I'm typing. It doesn't take me away from anything I'm doing, but allows me to knit or read or write while giving me some support. I've always thought my favorite music genre was Classic Rock because I grew up with that music. But even before The Beatles came to the US, Mom had given me the gift of Classical music, and today I'm very grateful for that! How about you? Claudia

I love all sorts of music, my fav's are old style country and alike, bluegrass, classic rock and disco (Bee Gees!). I like some opera songs too, especially from "Phantom of the Opera" and I like Susan Boyle.

I enjoy jazz, too. There is so much great jazz music out there and we don't tend to hear much about jazz anymore. But I know it will make a comeback in a big way one of these days! Things always come around again and again!

I listen to several artists from all genres. The only genres I don't care for is rap, screamo type music, and bluegrass. They are the worse for me. I don't like listening to songs that I can't understand what they are saying to me or the lyrics are very disturbing and nasty to a certain gender, sexually orientation, etc.

I agree with you about songs with disturbing language. I know a lot of young people absolutely love it because they can express their feelings through that music. I guess I've just come to a gentler place in life where those sounds have no place.

@CRK109 For me that music is just so angry and violent and I don't think that is a healthy way to express yourelf. If someone feels that angry and thinks that way all the time they have some problems they need to work through with a professional. Being harmful, especially to others isn't okay.

I listen to almost anything, but overwhelmingly, my favorite is country. It's funny that I am. No one in my family ever listened to it. However, when I was sixteen or so I developed a friendship with another girl (also named Amber, BTW). She always listened to country. I haven't seen her in ages, but I sure as heck still listen to country!

I grew up with friends who loved country but it didn't rub off on me as it did to you. However, when Carrie Underwood suddenly appeared out of nowhere, I began to fall in love with Country music!

I'm not a big fan of classical music, though I do like some of it. When I'm writing I listen to an eclectic list of music, from classic country, to classic rock, to soft jazz, to folk, to, well, you get the idea.

I'm a country lover forever. I do enjoy the oldies and some rock but my radio is always on the country station and it only gets changed if my grandchildren are in the car.

I know so many people who love country music and I admit I never paid much attention until Carrie Underwood came on the scene. She made me stand up and take notice.

hahaha Yes, so many people don't "get" Classical music, and that's okay. There is a place and time for it, and we find our way to it when the time is right. It has a wonderful way of tuning out all the hateful sounds that sometimes go on around us.

It depends on moods and sometimes what I am reading. I work my way through classical, pop, rock and their various sub-genres. Just lately, it has been a lot of 70s

You sound a lot like me. It does depend on my mood. The 70s included so many of my favorites. Except for VietNam, the 70s were a great time!
