*Black and blue on my thighs!

I accidentally bump on the tables and chairs here at home, and that causes me to have hematoma or black and blue skin discoloration, on my thighs.
I believe this is an effect of my Coumadin intake. Coumadin is an anticoagulant drug for the heart ailment I have. That is why I am restricted to take dark green leafy vegetables. These foods have high Vitamin K content and it is contraindicated for persons on Warfarin medication.
My black and blues eventually disappear after 3 days. I don’t apply hot or cold packs, but I massage it so the clotted blood will be reabsorbed.
When I have my blood extraction for PTPA, the prick bleeds longer, and then a bluish mark appears. I have to keep the cotton ball in the site plastered for several minutes.
So, blacks and blues are not always the results of slapping or cruelty. It could be due to an illness.

You can also bruise easily if you have low iron. Sorry you hit your thigh and bruised up though. Take care

yes too. but bruising when one has low iron content in his blood precipitates a blood dyscrasia.

yes my friend. it does not necessarily mean she is a victim of violence, although some reason it out that they bump into hard objects thus the bruise, when in fact, she is already a victim of slapping.

@ridingbet Bumping into something or slipping down the stairs are popular excuses.

@Kandae11 indeed, and the culprits of those petty crimes usually get away with it. i wonder why the victims deny the harsh treatment they get from their abusers.

yes, it is actually a natural reaction of our body to have black and blues when we hit something hard. there is extravasation of some ruptured blood vessels in the subcutaneous tissues.

that is why our tables and chairs must have soft edges or cushions so that we don't get hurt or don't bruise when we accidentally bump into them. otherwise, we have to be extra careful when touching or passing by them.

@allknowing yes but what i am saying is, when a bruise stays longer than a week, it is better for you to go to a doctor.

but when a bruise stays longer than a week, better go for consultation because you might have a health problem.

my lady, if the hematoma disappears within 3 days,, it is superficial and that is a normal reaction so no need to worry. that is why it is better to protect ourselves from these blacks and blues by being careful when we pass through tables and chairs.

@SIMPLYD no, my lady. that is a natural reaction of our body to have bruises when we accidentally bump on hard objects. but when a hematoma stays so long, maybe a week, then, there might be something wrong with one's blood, so it is better to consult a doctor.

@ridingbet I think we need to be careful in making statements especially if they don't have a background in certain topics.

@Shavkat i think there are many who believe they know many things about many things, and that makes them ridiculous if they don't listen to others who have some knowledge about certain topics.

welcome, my friend. just be careful when you have black and blues, sometimes a warm compress after a cold pack does not leave the mark in the skin.

I know my mom was on Warfarin and she would bruise so easily. You would think to look at here that she was being abused. She would just have to bang her arm or leg on something and she would be all black and blue.

yes that is usually a side effect of the skin, and sometimes it is not nice to look at when the blacks and blues are in the arms.

@Happy2BeMe others might think that one is a victim of violence or abuse, unless they know that the person with the black and blues take medicines like Coumadin.

Oh, I always had a black and blue skin discoloration even with just a mild bump on chairs. Does it mean something really on my health? I always think that it was a normal thing until I read your case. I got curious about it.

it is normal to have hematoma when you bump into something and your soft tissues are affected. but when the black and blues stay longer than a week, it is imperative that you go for check-up to hematologist.

@ridingbet Ah, Okay. When I got skin discoloration, it only takes 3 to 4 days and will disappear. Thanks for that information.

yes, i believe that is also a sign when the monthly period is nearing. bruises appear anywhere, and then they disappear within a few days during the cycle (menstruation).

yes, i am restricted to eat dark green leafy vegetables because it is contradictory to my Coumadin intake. i still can take fruit vegetables like eggplants, bitter gourds, okra, squash, and others.

Thanks for sharing that with us. You are right that black and blue does not mean someone falls a lot, but, can be something else.
