Are Kids Supposed To Be Tortured On Their Summer Vacations? Part One of Two

When I was about nine years old my mother remarried. We moved to Pocatello and during the summer I was often packed off to my grandparent's. I enjoyed the freedom there with the animals and plenty of land and places to discover. First thing I did was to make the rounds of the extensive vegetable garden that my grandmother grew each year and the fruit around the three quarter acre. This included blackberries, black caps, raspberries, gooseberries, pie cherries, apricots and rhubarb. It didn't long until I started feeling a little queasy and then stomach cramps and diarrhea took over. My grandmother was the family medic and her answer to most any "stomach flu"-type malady was a warm water enema. Not a fun thing to have happen to a nine year old child.

I suffered from that from my grandma. I blame my irritable bowel syndrome on that.

I loved it there. It was a lesson I learned not to eat so much fruit all at one time.

@bunnybon7 .....Yes. At one point when I had a lot of stomach issues when I was about twelve or so my aunt got me some stuff that was like MOM and it was even worse. Smelled like chicken poop. I refused to drink it.

I guess so. All the different types I ate adds up to quite a lot of fruit.

That it quite the story. Lesson learned I am sure.
I use to love going to my grandparent's house. They lived on a farm so we would be out collecting eggs to chasing around the various animals. It always always so much fun.

I do not think this is torture, it's either it was necessary or it was the only remedy they have or was available at that time, well you had your share of the fun and the food
, my guess at least it was done with TLC

I am not sure an enema is a good solution for anything, esp what appears to have been overeating of the fresh foods.

Ahh, did that happen due to intake of too many berries/fruits?
