Are Kids Supposed To Be Tortured On Their Summer Vacations? Part Two of Two

When I had recovered from the 'stomach flu' I began hanging out with my friend from across the street, Jackie, and her Dennis-the-Menace-type cousin. They were always up to something. On this one particular day the two of them were headed down to Quasey Swans, the rock quarry just down the way. At my young age I had no idea of the possible danger I was in jumping from one pile of precariously stacked rock to another. Well, my grandmother did realize and she always seemed to know where I went. Unbeknownst to me she was on her way to retrieve her long lost granddaughter from possible harm. This is when I was introduced to the willow switch she had fashioned along her way. This not only hurt but was humiliating as my two friends watched in horror as I was switched a long the trail back to Grandma's.

I just spanked my daughters with my hand on their naughty little butts. Not hard but enough to learn that I wanted them alive.

That's basically what Grams was doing. Just scaring me I think. Putting the fear of God in me.

Oh my! At least Grandma took charge . . . she got you back home safely . . . . . . well, not sure which was more treacherous - the rocks or the switch !

I didn't get hit a lot. This was about the only time. I think there are beatings and there are switchings.

kinda sad you weren't warned first, like how did you know it wasn't ok if you were told!

@celticeagle eh I disagree here. Kids don't think, so a scolding sure, but a switching? I would have scolded and perhaps given a chore for time to think, but not gone right to switching.

she was just showing tough love so you wouldn't get hurt. is the quarry a place you can fall into a lot of water?

No water that I recall. She just switched me, not beat me.
