Another site bites the dust

Yesterday I found out that Blogbourne is closing down when their hosting expires. I can hardly say I'm surprised. As far as I can tell nobody has posted there since January. I'm not sure what made me join the site but I knew from the start that it wasn't for me so, thankfully, all I ever published was one introductory post. However when things got bad I still logged in every day to collect my 5 points, just in case things got better one day. Remarkably that activity was enough to get me to number 32 on the Blogbourne leaderboard. Now I've deleted my account, so that's one less thing to waste time on. If you've still got a Blogbourne account I suggest you visit the site and back up any content you may want to use in the future.

My information is that BlogBourne is paid up until the October. No clue to me why the site was not a success. I have a lot of respect for anyone with the guts to start a site like that and put their heart, money and hours into such a site.

@PatZAnthony I believe you're right about it being paid up until October, but I heard that the owner no longer visits the site so nobody is likely to get paid in the meantime. I think part of the reason that the site failed was that the coin was worth a lot less than people expected.

@Gina145 Some of us were hoping the site would change format. Perhaps if it was like myLot it would do better?

@PatZAnthony I really don't know how they could have improved it, but clearly the owner has given up. I guess the secret to myLot's success is that it's different from the other sites. I don't know if it would be a good thing if someone tried to create another site just like it.

@dianadee So many, and it's better to stay away from most of them. You're lucky you didn't waste time on this one.

@Gina145 One that got away from my interest! Glad too.

I cannot even remember if I have joined it. Anyway I do not think the current paying sites are going to pay good rate. Mylot is likely sustainable, because of strong supporters like you and me, but the rate is going to get lower and lower.

@Gina145 I think Mylot is sustainable. Even if we earn lower rate than before, at least we are still getting paid.

@scheng1 At least two other sites have stopped paying since I started this discussion - Niume and LiteracyBase. There seems to be something very wrong with the way most people are running their sites so I'm reluctant to join any new ones now. myLot works differently and the owners have clearly come up with a better formula so hopefully it will still be around for many years.

I am not surprised about it. I joined this site before. However, I can see there is no future here. So I stopped working on this site.

@Gina145 I didn't. It is a good choice.

@Shavkat I hope you didn't waste too much time there before you stopped.

@xstitcher You're lucky. I wish I'd never heard of it either. Thankfully I didn't waste as much time there as I did on some other sites that didn't pay.

Too many sites are disappearing, it seems that the earnings now do not even cover the hosting costs.

@LadyDuck That's true. I think part of the problem is that it's too easy to create a site and a lot of people do it without realising how difficult it is to make a success of that kind of site.

@Gina145 Exactly the marketers make people believe that you can make thousands of dollars doing nothing, just open a site and make the others work for you. This is not how things work.
