Showing my daughter how to germinate some seeds. She gets some from the dollar store. So she will have some Lavender and one other I don't remember what they were. I had her find an old container and put a little water in the bottom. Put some torn up tissue paper in there. Add the seeds and then spray or sprinkle some water over them. Set them in a sunny spot and let nature do its thing.
She tried to just sprinkle them out in the yard and sprayed the earth good with water last spring. When she told me she had done that I felt bad for her. They never took off. These are already sprouting.

Hee hee. If she had done it in soft, tossed ground after the frost is gone then perhaps it would have worked. But, this was before the frost was gone and on hard earth.

@BelleStarr .......Not me. I love to watch things bud and start to grow. No speed ups for me.

I have never heard of growing plants like this - have you done it before? Not sure how the tissues paper will sustain them.

I used to do it all of the time. My grandmother used to save seeds from the vegetables she grew, kept them all winter and planted them the next spring. She just used a kleenex to keep them on. I guess you can do it how ever you feel good about it. Some use those little cups and others, well they all have their own way. Just need to have something for the seeds to grow in.

@AbbyGreenhill .....By germinating them first you can discard the weaker ones when the times comes to set them out.

@celticeagle But don't you plant them outside when they are big enough? I know how to start seeds, have done it many times, just never heard of tissue paper and no dirt.

It takes patience. You need to leave them in germination for several weeks.

I have never sown a seed. It must be nice to do. Your daughter's innocence is shown here. How old is she?

It feels good to watch something grow. My daughter is 45 but hasn't done a lot of growing or been interested in it until the last few years.

Great. After reading your post I recollected that I had to plant some Mango seedlings in my site.
