Need the crystal before my Nan dies!!!!

**Before I explain, I would just like to mention how I mean no offense to anyone who works in sales. This is purely a story about this woman who was trying to sell me something today** I went shopping this morning to try and find something for my Nan. It's her birthday soon. I wanted to get her something special for she always spoils me. What I really wanted, I unfortunately couldn't find. She loves collecting these Royal Doulton figurines. Which I was not able to find in stores but thought I'd find something similar or some kind of pretty figurine. I went into a jewellery store that sell nice crystals. I explained to the lady who worked there that I was looking for something pretty for my Nan for her birthday. The woman showed me this cute, pretty crystal flower. It was beautiful and sparkly! $149 which for me was too high but I didn't mind since it was special for Nan. I was just about to say "I will get that thank you." But then the woman said something that made me cringe inside and not want it anymore. She said, and I quote: "You know we are only given one or two grandmothers....and sadly enough they won't be around for all of our adult life....they won't be here for long." Really? That is your sale technique? To tell me that my Nan must have this item before she dies? I'm sorry, I've heard some awful sale techniques before but this was by far the most morbid. Of course, it's life that the most elderly loved ones in our lives may pass away before we do but to use that to push me to buy something? No, I don't think so! I didn't end up getting the crystal. I don't care if it sounds stupid but I didn't feel like buying from her! I don't want to use my money based on guilt!

That to me was a very rude thing for her to have said to you. You should have told her why you did not buy it.

@jstory07 I actually regret now not saying something. I was feeling myself cringe and wanting to get out of there ASAP.

@VivaLaDani13 That goes beyond rude. Disgusting and gross.

@jstory07 I'm still in shock. I feel it was such a bad move for someone working in sales! To sink that low to sell something? Awful!

People or shops lose sales because of lack of common sense.

This was something extremely rude and unpleasant to say, I do not think she will get many customers if this is her selling technique.

@LadyDuck My dad and I were wondering how often she does that. I can't even find the right word to describe it. In fact what you said is one great word. Unpleasant.

That was a horribly insensitive thing to say, it would have made me not buy it too.

@jaboUK It sure was. I'm not one to complain to the manager of a store but part of me feels like telling her manager / boss about it. It's just so morbid to say to someone.

Believe it or not, I have actually heard that type of pitch before. It's never worked on me, though.

@RichardMeister That is awful! I hope it doesn't work on anybody! No one should have their feelings played just to buy something!

THAT made me cringe too especially remembering the conversation yesterday about how you do not like birthdays. It was like she knew about your feelings on the matter and said it to you so you don't buy it. Or maybe someone higher up was conspiring and didn't think it was a good one for your Nan and so had the lady say the'right words' to get you to decide against buying it.

@Daljinder She was just a biatch. That store is closing now too. So good riddance.
