When one door closes, another really does open!

Doors really do open and close. That's why we have them.
In 2010 we bought land, 12 1/4 acres. The purchase was for the purpose of investment, with the secondary purpose being land where we could build one day if we decided to go that route. Within a few months of buying it I knew it was a mistake. It is a little too far off the beaten path and we heard stories about break-ins and other damage kids were doing. Country roads that are pitch black at night often lead to trouble.
We met the neighbors - strange people who pretty much said they hunted on our property. Hum.....that didn't make me very happy. I pictured living there and having to worry about how good their aim was. (They have since sold and moved.)
We had the electric company come out and the estimate to run electric was $5,000 just for the wire needed. The property is almost 3,000 feet front to back and we wanted a home at the back. I won't even go into all that would have been involved in getting wired.
With all that we decided to list it for sale. Since then we have had three different realty outfits trying to get it sold. In between we tried to sell it on our own. It was just this past winter that we had some semi-serious buyers....but their low-ball offer was quickly rejected. Now we have a real buyer and the closing is set for Monday morning.
To back to the door statement:
The door at the building where the closing will be held will close as we walk through it check in hand......the door at the bank will open as we walk through it to make a deposit!
Doors do work both ways!

@celticeagle Yes, that was 20 acres. This one is smaller but was much harder to sell due to the location and layout of the land. This is the last one..no more to sell and we won't buy land as an investment ever again.

This is part of our retirement funds, so it's nice to get it back, - or most of it back anyway!
