Instead of ordering by post, I went into town for a couple of maps. Turned out I only needed one, so I saved £5.99 there. Mind you, it cost £6.20 for the train. To make the most of it, I went and had a look at Piccadilly Circus where the iconic advertising screens are switched off as they get replaced with a giant curved 4K screen. Adverts in Hi-Def, deep joy! Something I was not expecting on Piccadilly Circus was a mythical Bubba Gump shrimp restaurant! A bit of an amble along Carnaby Street, probably not quite the centre of young fashion it was in the 60s and finished up on Oxford Circus. The street layout of which has changed since I worked on its Underground Station Way back in 1999. To wrap the day off, there was an al fresco lunch on the roof of Temple Tube Station watching the boats on the Thames. I had my trusty video camera with me and had some fun, all the same I don't Steven Spielberg has anything to worry about! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIFo1V9nrxY

I visited Carnaby Street in the late 70s and it was touristy then. So they are just flying Bubba Gump banners and there is no restaurant?

@Ronrybs If only to have experienced Carnaby Street in the swinging 60s with all the hot birds in mini's.

I think there is a restaurant, but I didn't go looking for it. I think it is safe to say that Carnaby Street is very touristy now!

@JohnRoberts Yes, for sure! I like the original Italian Job, swinging London would be a thing to see. I was ten in 67, not the age to appreciate it!

oh I do remember hearing about Carnaby Street in the 60s. It was a place I wanted to visit SO badly! So much fashion being set in those days. And my poor parents hated all of it! lol I love your video. Really makes me want to travel there and wander around! I think you did a rather good job of it!

@Ronrybs I'm really enjoying your little movies because they allow me to see places I'll probably never get to see in real life! I love hearing about your travels but seeing a little bit of them is even better!

@LadyDuck Finding photos in the digital age is even worse, I have hard drives full of the things, they really need cataloguing

@Ronrybs - They opened them shortly after the movie. I've heard it's good. I just prefer to support locally owned restaurants whenever I can.

Wow, thanks so much for the tour!! I've always wanted to go to London! Love the flower boxes, your streets are so clean! Is that a clown leaning out the window at about 1:14? That was kind of creepy!

I think it is meant to be William Shakespeare, but he is painted white for some reason! Have to say not all the streets are that clean.

Not sure if it is me setting it up, but this one needs copying and pasting. A bit irritating!

I wonder how it got that name - Picadilly Circus.

A tailor made a fortune selling collars, called picadils, to the court. He bought land and built a house, named Picadilly House as a sort of put down as to how he made his money.
