Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney passed away on Thursday at age 84. Rooney is the son of the late Art Rooney who was the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1933 until his passing in 1988. Dan Rooney will be best remembered for the "Rooney Rule" which requires teams in the National Football League to interview minority candidates for head coaching and general managing jobs. The Steelers organization is one of the few teams in the National Football League to keep their head coaches working for them for a long period of time. Art Rooney II who is the son of the late Steelers chairman will not take control of the football team that started playing football in the National Football League since 1933.

So a Rooney will not remain in command of the team. An era has ended.

Both he and his father, two of the best owners in NFL history. R.I.P. Mr. Rooney.

The Steelers are a class act in the National Football League. Not many owners have kept their coaches around for a long period of time like the Steelers have done with their coaches.

@teamfreak16 The first year I remember watching the NFL was around 1973 when the Southern Command Network (SCN) carried the football games in Panama on a one week delay.

Its sad that he passed and now there is a question of who takes over the team. I really hope this doesn't end up looking like the Los Angeles Lakers.
