How many stairs you can climb

Gurgaon, India
April 14, 2017 11:32am CST
Hello everyone, do you like to climb stairs? How many stairs you can climb? I live in a building which has twelve floors and I live at eleventh floor. I usually I go down by stairs and while coming up I use elevator till eighth floor then I use stairs till eleventh floor. For two days the both elevators we have in our building are under maintenance so we have to use stairs which is a big task for many people.

Wow that is a lot of stairs especially if you have kids, or groceries to carry! That is a good work out though.

@infatuatedbby yes it is very challenging for elders but I am so happy to find them sitting in the park or walking, it means they have such a will power.

Yes so many stairs. Old people and children are facing much problem specially when children return from schools with their heavy bags.

Some people would find so many stairs very taxing. It's good that you do some of the stairs. It will keep you much fitter and you won't be at such a disadvantage when the elevators are not working.

To climb eleven floors is a difficult task, specially in one go. If you could do it, you are brave and you have lots of stamina. My office is on the fifth floor. I usually climb down the stairs. Sometimes I take lift to reach at fifth floor, otherwise I climb up the stairs. It is said that climbing stairs is one of the best exercises. I think when you look down below from your floor, the scene looks like as seen in the picture. Picture by me.

@Bodyandbrain if you could straight away climb up to eleventh floor, it is really commendable. I think you need to take short breaks, when you try to climb up in one go so as to gather your breath. I also take small breaks, when climbing up. Most of the time I don't wait for the lift, when I climbed down. You didn't say anything about the picture?

Yes, eleventh floor is too much to reach by stairs. When I started, I thought I would need to stop and take rest but I could do it in one go. We need to go slow and take it just one by one if we have to climb that much. It is wise if you are not dependent on elevators and you use stairs in your daily life. Fifth floor can be too much for many people.

@dpk262006 sorry I forgot to ask about it. Is it where you live? I think you have good health if you can use stairs.

Using the stairs rather than the lift is a very good exercise. Maximum i have tried is climbing 9 floors. It is very tiring though

@Bodyandbrain once we get accustomed to elevators, it is hard to climb stairs, at least for me. Lately, I did not check, too - how much I can climb. But, once in a while, it'll be a great excercise.

Yes when we start depending on elevators we loose the capacity to climb stairs. I use stairs at regular basis. It is really a good exercise and we should not be depending on elevators.

I would prefer the elevator over stairs any day to be honest, but there are times when taking the stairs are a much more practical way of getting to another floor, like when you don't want to wait too long for the elevator to come.

Yes most of us like to use elevator over stairs. Even I find it more practical to use stairs because lift is always busy. Can I know in which country and state do you live?

This is like blessing in disguise for people who are trying to burn some calories naturally. If we are in practice, we climb the stairs, otherwise each floor after 3rd floor might get stressful.

@Bodyandbrain More than physical strain, sometimes it is time factor that works against us when lift is not working. I used to miss out on my office cabs.

@Bodyandbrain I do. Many times i take them instead of the escalator, but many people suggest against it for the knee issues at later age. So i don't over do it.

Though I make it. but it also made me to decide that I would not do it again untill i reduce my weight.
