In director John Landis' 1983 comedy, Trading Places, Louis Winthorpe III is a successful commodities trader working for a prestigious firm owned by Randolph (Ralph Bellamy) and Mortimer (Don Ameche) Duke. Meanwhile, Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) is a down on his luck con man who accidentally crosses paths with Louis. The Dukes place a wager that they can turn Billy Ray into a hot shot commodities trader, while ruining Louis' life at the same time.
Winthorpe loses everything, his home and butler (Denholm Elliot,) his fiancé (Kristin Holby,) and his job. Luckily, Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis) a kind hearted prostitute, takes Louis in. Eventually, Louis and Billy Ray discover the Duke's bet and team up to orchestrate the Duke brothers' downfall.
Trading Places is a hilarious movie with a top-notch cast (Paul Gleason, Al Franken and Tom Davis, Frank Oz, and Jim Belushi all have small, but funny, rolls as well.)
The film is often referred to as a modern telling of both Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper, and Mozart's The Marriage of Figero.
Trading Places is rated R for profanity and frontal nudity (including Jamie Lee Curtis.)
Funny stuff indeed. Favorite quote:
"He was wearing my Harvard tie. Oh sure, like HE went to Harvard."

No, it's Christmas time, at least a lot of it. The scene on the train takes place on New Years Eve.

@teamfreak16 Bad phrasing on my part. It tends to appear on the box. That makes a bit more sense

@teamfreak16 Yes. He's a bit of a jerk in the beginning, but the terrible things that happen to him are not his fault.

My young eyes at the time really did not get past that Jamie Lee Curtis scene.
