Off To The Post Office Today

I have two post cards going out today. One to Italy and one to France. I’m really enjoying my connection at Postcrossings.com. I’ve received over 20 postcards so far, from all over the world. I just joined 5 months ago and I’m so glad that I did. At first, I had a difficult time FINDING post cards but now I have the perfect place to purchase them, even though the price is two for $1.75. I was happy to find out though, that John Tyler College, near where I live, will be hosting a HUGE postcard sale in October, so I will definitely try to go to that. I was told that the post cards would be in the thousands and the prices on a lot of them would be 25 cents each. So, I’m hoping to buy quite a few for my new hobby. Do you belong to Postcrossings?

I do not even know that such a site exists. It must be interesting to have postcards from all over the world. Last year when my friends went to Japan. They bought postcards, and sent the postcards to themselves! Sound a bit sad to write a postcard to yourself.

@IreneVincent I think if you travel by public transportation, there will be post box in bus station or train station. Actually when you buy the post card, you can also ask the shop people to help you send it out.

@scheng1 Well, I don't travel like I used to when I was younger. That's a good idea though. I traveled by airplane mostly and I never noticed any post box at the airports. I could have asked in the shops though, I guess. I just never though about doing that.

No, I've done that too when I was traveling. That way you have the stamp. I have post cards that I sent to myself from Jamaica and Switzerland and a few other places. I couldn't always get to a post office in another country.

Postcards can be quite difficult to find in many locations, which is no doubt due to the reduced trade caused by modern technology. Those postcards do seem rather expensive. I have paid more, but only for unusual examples.

@IreneVincent I have found several odd postcards during my travels, such as round, clover shaped and even one the shape of Tenerife. I am happy to pay more in order to send out those, but usually 40 cents would be considered expensive.

Yes, at first, I had a difficult time finding a store that sold post cards. But, I was glad to find this one. In October there is going to be a HUGE post card sale at the John Tyler Community College, just a few miles from where I live. I'm looking forward to going there because the post cards will be more affordable (25 cents for most) So, I will stock up. I'm going to look for some unusual cards though and they might cost more. I've set aside some money to go though, so I will be able to get as many as I want.

No I don't, but I know quite a few here have joined up and others are exchanging them amongst themselves and not necessarily doing the postcrossing thing. I have neither the extra time nor money to keep up with that right now, maybe when I retire or not. We'll have to wait and see. Have you exchanged your address with any mylotters yet? I did get my first postcard from a member here, but it was mostly because he wanted to pass some on from his stash of older postage. I will say I was very surprised to discover how quick it did come here from England. If you're able to get a lot of them for just a quarter each that will be a huge savings for you.

Yes, I have received some post cards from other mylotters and I really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to the sale at the local college in October.

No, I don't but I'm glad you're enjoying it. It will be good to source some cheaper postcards.

I've heard the website mentioned plenty of times but haven't joined. I may look into it today and see , it seems everyone who is part of it loves being a part of it.

I am really enjoying it so far and I spend maybe $10 a month. That's not bad for a fun hobby, I don't think.
