I hope that the news is not true. Newsweek reports that Philippines President Duterte tells the jobless to go and kill drug addicts. Given that there are 40 millions unemployed persons in Philippines, this speech to the jobless is terrifying. I hope that he does not offer cash incentive for the people to witch-hunt drug addicts. While going all out against illegal drug is a good thing, killing drug addicts do not solve the problem. The drug dealers are the ones at fault. The country should impose death penalty for all drug dealers, and especially those at the top of the illegal drug trade.
Police and vigilantes have killed around 9,000 people in Duterte's war on drugs, which began last summer.

I hope that this is not true, if he offers a cash incentive many innocent people will be killed for money.

@scheng1 I had criticized what Duterte was doing since the beginning and I have been highly criticized by the Filipinos on this site. I have read about the Korean guy and what the police did and this was exactly what I thought they would have done. A wrong way to do things never become a right way, no matter to whom you ask to do the job.

@scheng1 Duterte is a Dictator, an elected "Dictator", we had other in the past century, especially in Europe. People think they are the solution, while they are only the start of big problems. Hitler was an elected Dictator, just to mention one.

@LadyDuck Philippines had Marcos, and now they have Duterte. This shows in order for democracy to work, the people must be intelligence enough to tell the liars who can act from the really sincere ones. If the people are not smart enough, not reasonable enough, and selfish enough, they will elect those who can talk only.

That is crazy. He is giving license to people to take the law into their own hands. I can imagine many innocent people could be murdered on a whim!

@scheng1 It is quite frightening. People must be living in fear. Marcos was another bad person. I don't know who is worse!
