Getting Lost In Your Head

I think as someone who likes to write I have a way of getting lost in my head. What I mean by that is getting so involved in ideas, characters, situations, and such that the world fades away until it is far, far away. This morning my hubby kept trying to get my attention and I was busy off traveling in space and time. I tend to focus so hard on what my imagination is saying to me that I don't hear anything around me. It looks like you are just sitting there staring off into space, doing nothing, saying nothing, just existing. When I am doing that I am working my hardest. Do you get lost in your head?

I wouldn't dare do that, I'd be lost for months ..... hummm, then again maybe that'd be a way to lose weight??

It's funny that you mention losing weight. We I am focused fully on building a person or scenario I do forget to eat.

@rebelann It's a way of creating. I can't believe you haven't read one of their books. You have tot 4ry them. There might be a few authors that are overweight but most of them seem to be of average weight. Unless the pictures taken of them are taken at a very opportune time for them.

Oh definitely. I even have conversations with those people in my head at times. Even writing non-fiction as I mostly do, I'm lost in other worlds and other times.

@HazySue it happens even in non-fiction!

@valmnz it does. I made characters up for the class one time for a story based firmly in history about the Great Wall of China. I made sure of the historical facts and added a little bit of action to it to help them learn the facts while enjoying the delivery of them.

I am glad there is someone else out there with me. I have conversations with characters I am building.

Getting lost in my head is better than a ton of other things I can think of!

@PatZAnthony Isn't it wonderful how you can create and visit with your characters at the same time?

It's funny that you say that because the same thing happened to me just this afternoon! Felt pretty good to get away for a little bit even though I was sitting right here! lol

@HazySue Most often, that's how I fall asleep. I create a character, or I create a place and then I build a story. And while the story is playing out, I generally go right off to sleep.

Sometimes it can be like taking a min vacation. I can see a person in my mind and place them somewhere in the past and weave a story around them.

Sometimes I do, especially when I'm a bit frustrated. Then you tend to be so preoccupied.

I am like that when I am creating or writing in my head. I become very involved in the characters and scenes.

@HazySue I guess that's part of writing. You get carried away by the characters you write.

@lclacambra it certainly is part of it. If you don't thin of them as real people you can't make them seem believable to the reader.

Yes, I do tend to get lost in thoughts as well. Maybe it's because I like writing too. Not too sure. But it does happen quite a bit.

It most likely is because of the love of writing. I thin we all need time to let our imaginations run free.

I can slip away at a moments notice and become focused on how I can use a phrase or image.

I used to be in thaqt world, now I am in the outer world more often. I do a whole lot of writing in my head now. Mulling over people and situations and molding them into real people and believable happenings.

Writing has a way of taking you out of the present and into the past or the future. You get to converse with people you don't know and mold them into someone who belongs in that date and time.

I am if I am focused on solving an issue I have with a character I am creating or having a scene make sense.
