Well one anyway. Twice now within the last few days my left hand has cramped up on me. I mean major too. My index finder straightens out and won't flex up again for several seconds. The pain is immense. My other fingers cramp up but not as badly as the index. I wonder what it is.

I just read that it could be low levels of calcium and magnesium Celtic. Sorry this is happening to you.

I wondered if it might be a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Writer's cramp? Carpal tunnel syndrome will do it, as will dehydration and lack of calcium and magnesium. Does this help you at all?

@celticeagle I had to look it up because I was getting mild cramps in my left hand and wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of a heart attack. I finally got a left-hand brace that fits today. The one the hospital gave me is too big so I was wearing my right-hand brace backwards without the metal splint in it.

I put my other hand over and warm it. That seems to help.

@celticeagle Warm compress as long as it helps :) But I would tell the doctor when you go for a check up.

I've been on all my meds for quite a while and have not had anything like this ever before. I think it is a deficiency in one of the minerals.

@just4him .....I need to exercise and be more limber then these type of things probably wouldn't be so hurtful. I just don't.

I have a lot of pain in both my hands especially when I use my hands a lot for art or even doing dishes. They cramp up painfully. The cause of mine is arthritis and it sounds like that is what is happening to you also. Have you seen a doctor about it? For me even using the computer mouse, typing, or almost anything I use my hands for causes me to cramp and hurt. I have to constantly stop what I'm doing to rest them before I continue.

I'm wondering if it isn't from typing so much. No doc yet. Am up for a annual check up soon. Are we getting old?

@celticeagle LOL! Arthritis doesn't alwayts have to do with age. I've had arthritis in my hands and knees since I was a teenager.

Never had hand cramps just leg cramps. Here is some info I found. However if it continues I would think you would want your doctor to take a look.
Find out the many causes of hand cramps, including dehydration and arthritis, and get proper treatment for the pain at Renova Hand Centers.
