Bad case of writer's block

When I was younger, I used to write stories all the time. I enjoyed creating characters and making them come to life. Lately, I've been feeling uncreative because I feel like all I do is watch movies, TV, read,... but I don't create anything myself anymore. I used to be so creative as a child, I wrote, I drew, I used to make all kinds of stuff and I want to be that person again. Therefore, I have decided to start writing again. The problem, however, is that I do not have any inspiration. So that's where you come in. Do you have any tips to defeat this writer's block, to help me get started again? Additionally, I'm wondering how many of you have had problems with coming up with inspiration in general (not just when it comes to writing stories). Let me know what you did to find your inspiration.

It's quite frustrating, isn't it?

@LadyDuck Yes, I have the same problem. Both in my story writing as in my discussions on mylot, I am lacking inspiration, so I have been responding to a lot of discussions but it had been a while since I had actually started one. Let's hope this discussion will be the end of my writer's block (and yours as well).

@maclanis Yes it is, but everything that comes to my mind sounds not interesting.

I let y inner child come out and play. Try looking at the world through the eyes of a child. I also get many ideas by looking through images on Pixabay.

Inspiration for short posts here can come from the news, from YouTube, from myLot itself, or from a photo sharing site like Pixabay. I hope you get your mojo back soon ;)

I've found that I'm really creative when I'm going about my regular day, but when it comes to actually writing, I can't remember any of the things I had come up with. I think you also have to build back up your creativity. (I know exactly what you mean about being a creative child but now you don't feel creative.) Try going somewhere public and making up short stories (they can be very short) about the people that you see. Where did they come from and where are they going? What do they like to do? etc. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely try that. Building up slowly seems like a great idea. I shouldn't expect to be able to immediately write a great story, it will take time.

Some of my inspiration comes from real life. I tend to write characters based on family members or friends.

That seems like a good idea. I also try to draw from real life people. That is what makes your characters realistic.

@maclanis It really does. As a reader and writer, that's the type of characters I'm drawn to.
