A Jersey Pig in the Highland

It looks like a duroc pig from other countries. The jersey pig in the highland of Kalinga is a bit small, small body structure, and ears slightly droop. The color is slightly brown as compared to jersey red pigs. It is not commonly seen in lowland areas. It seems that there so many variances of swine around the globe. I had seen this one household in Tinglayan, Kalinga. I took a picture as a keepsake. “Do you have like this in your country?” Image Credit: Shavkat

No likely to find a pig in my country. We do not have pig farms for many years, and we get our pork from neighboring countries. I think when different breed of pigs interbreed to get new breed, the new breed will be healthy and strong.

@Shavkat haha, I don't know about that. When I go to the supermarket to buy pork, the label never mentions the pig breed.

@scheng1 The domestic pigs are usually available in the supermarket. The mixed breed pigs are usually butchered in the provinces for personal consumptions.

I was also surprised when seeing this for the first time. I was even laughing when the local tribes call it as the jersey pig.

I don't see any pigs around here, and honestly do not know much about them, though I have seen some in the past in other places. I once went to a pig farm in England and it was very muddy lol This looks like a strong little creature and I like the red. Some people have them for pets.

I haven't tried to see pigs in the zoo. I actually see them in lowland areas in my country. With this kind of piggy, they can be seen in isolated places in the mountains.

@DianneN I think it is fine to see these cutesy pigs. Are you far from Florida?

@Shavkat I think there is one section in the USA where there are wild boar, and that is more on the west coast of Florida.

@Shavkat There are quite a number of pig breeds. Some pigs grow very big, don't they?

there are many variations of pigs in the slaughterhouse here, but i think the meat of this kind is of thick 'laman'?
