Opening a bank account in a weird manner?

I think all of you are aware about the procedures of opening an account in bank. We have to submit the application along with passport size photos and copies of required documents. Some banks open the account instantly and some other will ask for us to wait for their sms. Before four months, we have couriered the documents to a bank in our native place for a housing loan. We sent the documents from our side and still need the documents of house which we are yet to receive. So we are waiting. In the meantime last week I got an sms in mobile mentioning that an account is opened in that bank. I have not given much importance as we have sent the documents for loan. The very next day I got an email welcoming me to their services. Please note, I am just a co-applicant and application submitted on my husband’s name. But he did not receive any information. To my surprise two days before I got a cheque leaf and a letter mentioning that they are sending other documents like atm cards soon. I really don’t know what is happening. We have not paid any money for opening an account. It is not from a private bank but it is a public sector bank. We are keeping our silence and not doing anything until and unless we get the papers of our newly bought house for further procedures of home loan. Is it easy for you to open a bank account in your place?

Only some banks offerers open a bank account without any money.(I am saying it from my experience) The account will get activate once you deposited money. You have to apply separately for cheque book once the account get activated. Here every happened without our knowledge

@SreekalaThere are zero balance accounts, but they are very few. Sometimes, accounts even need 20,000/- INR minimum balance.

There are issues in different Banks with regards to opening. Sometimes some documents are asked, and then the Bank authorities ask for more documents. Or they say that one signature was left here, and there.

Usually bank people are very particular on documents. Next thing we have not asked to open an account, we applied for a house loan and sent paper for that alone. Moreover, I am co-applicant with my hubby, where they sent all in my name.

There are many banks over here and the account opening process is not the same for all. Same have strict controls where it will take longer to open the accounts or have loans. And other where rules are more relaxed and things get done more quickly

Here also the same. Some banks are more strict and need money to open an account. Some allowing open and account on zero balance. But no banks issues cheques without depositing money in bank.

Recently I opened a joint account in uco bank didn't had any problem as such. We went their and filled an application form and have them address proof . They said they will be sending a letter by post on the address mentioned in application form and we have to bring that for further formalities.

Some other banks will send sms through mobile and if we go to the bank with the same, they will give the passbook. No need to deposit money. But the account become active only after depositing money.

How come, without our signatures and proper formalities. We applied for a loan and still we have to submit valid documents for getting a home loan. If they approved the loan then I can understand. Let us wait and see what they will do.

haha May be some banks become liberal. It does not mean India is improving. Actually banks are raised the minimum balance and I felt it will be difficult for normal people who earns less money.

Perhaps you should go to the bank and have it clarified with them. There must be some issues involved.

The bank is in our native place and we are staying far away. That is why I am confused otherwise I could go to bank straight.
