Beaching Cows

As you will read in the next few weeks, most of my postings will be about my travels to the Southern coast of the Transkei in South Africa. On our visit to a beautiful resort called Hole in the Wall near a place named Coffee Bay which is between Morgan Bay and Kei Mouth, I mentioned in a previous post the fantastic views . . . then we came upon a unforgettable sight. Cattle on the swimming beach!! I have never seen this before and asked our local guide to give me some insight as to why they do this. There is apparently no easy explanation except that the cattle herd themselves down to the warm moist, beach sand and curl up while still chewing on some cud and watch the ocean roll in. Its one of the most bizarre things you will ever see. We were able to walk in and about these beefy beachcombers as they were quite docile, clicking away at out camera's while they calmly rested . . . setting a pose with contentment that no other model or cow has ever shown. My heading gives a polarized meaning to the two words that would most certainly en-captivate the mood of a photo shoot on any beach, be it cows or other!
