Frugal Food: Dinner for two for under ten bucks.

Tonight we had potatoes stroganoff and toast points. I cheated and used the hamburger helper box, but substituted ground pork for ground beef, because me and the other half don't really like ground beef. I added everything up while I was cooking and tried to post it and it wouldn't post. But the hamburger helper, pork, bread, olive oil, milk and seasonings that it took to make dinner tonight totaled $7.08! That's for two people. There were no leftovers, there usually isn't when I make something with ground pork. What did you have for dinner?

That cost's really economical. I'm thinking of having chicken curry.

Do you use coconut milk in your curry? All the recipes that I have seen use it and I am allergic. :(

I am a long time vegetarian--tonight is zucchini and mushroom lasagna--sauce is done--just about ready to slice and compile and put it in the oven--and that means lasagna for breakfast tomorrow morning!!

@thislittlepennyearns The most expensive thing I buy is the mozzarellla cheese--otherwise, it is pretty inexpensive to make--certainly under $10 for 3 people

Pork chops, baked potatoes, and baby spinach with garlic and olive oil. $5 for the pork chops, 25 cents for the potatoes, $6 for the spinach, and I'll say 50 cents for the seasoning, olive oil, and garlic. $11.75 for dinner for 2.

That's why I cook, it's economical and save me lots of money. I rarely eat out. As for dinner, I only have simple aglio e olio. I have dinner at work as I work night shift and I don't really feel like cooking complicated food.

We have it a couple times a month. I try not to use it too much, because it isn't very healthy but sometimes it is just really good.
