I am thinking about baking a cake.

Although it is not raining anymore, everything is wet and humid. I don´t want to go to the supermarket and buy something to eat tomorrow at tea time with my friends.
So I´m thinking that I could bake a cake and serve it when they are here.
I used to bake wonderful cakes and this is a very good and easy recipe from The Joy of Cooking, my favorite cook book. Now I mostly cook dinner dishes and use whatever I have in my fridge.
Cakes need recipes and I stopped doing them when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes, more than 20 years ago.
Do you bake cakes or do you buy them already made?

I try to make home cakes whenever possible - but nothing fancy! I use recipes too . . . I guess they say baking is like chemistry - there is a reason for the ingredients being exact. It's nice and special to be able to say you made this cake that you serve to your guests.
But I will say they make it too easy and convenient to just go buy a cake from the store, although that option is often not cheap. And there are preservatives and such in them - that part I don't like.

I only buy a big cake for my birthday because I invite around 30 people.

@marguicha For that many guests, oh yes, buying a large cake makes sense! Have you decided on what cake you will be baking?

@much2say There is a cake that only uses yolks and tastes yummy. And I could add on top of it a white sauce with an apricot paste in brandy I have.

I enjoy baking cakes and I enjoy the taste more. I don't care for the already made cakes personally.

If I ever want a cake, I have to make it. I do not like store bought cakes at all.
I usually make an Irish cake, those are the recipes passed down in my family.
