The Watering Hole

Summertime is coming and this year I seem to be looking back over past ones I have spent. In 1986 I was just single again and enjoying a new job and my sanity after a bad marriage. My daughter and I moved into a brownstone apartment building in the north end. A neighbor and I started going for drives in the country and up in the mountains. He and I were great pals for several years. He introduced to places I hadn't been aware of and we sure enjoyed ourselves.
One place was the Watering Hole up in McCall which is a resort town about 100 miles from here. It has since been sold to a private owner but back then it rented out its four rooms and had two hot tubs. We go up, rent a room and get into the hot tubs. The huge windows could be opened after dark and you looked out on mountains and pine trees as far as the eye could see.
It also had a big deck where you could and look out over the expanse of trees and the mountains beyond.
This place was so pleasant and inexpensive. Sure wish it was still open to the public.
Do you have a place you used to enjoy and now it is no more?

Wow, that place sounds like paradise! I could be so happy in a place like that. Hubby and I used to go to some place similar at Cape Cod, and then we found a gorgeous place right on the water in Maine, where we spent a few blissful days. It was so nice to fall asleep listening to the ocean and the fog horn. We loved lighthouses and we could see Nubble from our deck. And one day, I was sitting out on the deck reading while Hubby was taking a nap. And to my shock and surprise, a red fox appeared a few feet from me. I guess since I wasn't moving, he didn't realize I was real, and he never came any closer. He walked off and I rushed inside to wake up Hubby and tell him about our visitor! I do miss those days.

Oh, yah, it sure was. McCall is such a nice little town. I love to visit when I can. I have been up there so many time I take the journey in mind. Helps the depression that I have. I slept in the park on Friday harbor in the San Juan Islands one time. It was so cool hearing the boats tooting to one another and going by all night out on the ocean. How cool to see a fox like that.

@celticeagle Those are the times we remember the most. These days I really have to work hard to keep my depression in check. My medication mostly works well, but I've found that exercise is becoming a must and at times like this, losing my cat, I have to find a lot of things to keep my brain busy. Sleeping is nice, too.

@CRK109 .......Me too! It gets tough sometimes. Have to try to keep moving along. I watch a lot of TBBT and that helps.

That sounds so amazing - how lucky the private owners must be to have such a place! I know there are places that Hubby and his buddies used to go bike riding to in our Valley here . . . but the Valley has gotten so developed through the years . . . the fields and orchards and empty lots are all some kind of built up property now.
Our local community college used to have a farm center and if you walked passed it and up the hill, there was a hidden pond area where many people used to jog or walk around. It was a beautiful little gem . . . but then the college sold that entire part of of the property I guess. With fences and no trespassing signs all around, no one can enjoy that area anymore.

I enjoy going to a park to just walk around and any park anywhere will be ok.

And taxes go up in a popular place and then the prices go up too.

That sounds really wonderful...The old unexplored picnic sites we would visit has turned into booming tourist places.

It sounds like a lovely place. I didn't do a lot of traveling, so I don't know if any place I used to know is around any longer.
