I Need Your Opinion About Carrying a Hunting Knife As a Weapon At Night

First, I do not believe in carrying a weapon when going out---running a night errand. I have never had a problem with anyone during those night safaris and I guess, I feel more safer when I don't have a weapon with me. However, in my recent night adventure, someone (a friend of mine) said it is safer to have some form of protection with us because we never know what to expect each and every time, and that we should always be prepared to deal with any danger that might befall us. And yes! He had a knife by then, To say the truth, I was so uncomfortable around him. I dreaded the police officers who are always on patrol in the area and if found with a weapon, one is likely to spend some time in remand prison before the wheel of justice take its cause. Yes! Thugs hang around in evening hours. They have their own sort of weaponry and might attack anytime without a warning. But must I be prepared to fight them off with a weapon of my own? Oops!
