Antibiotic Consumption

A month ago I suffered from severe flu. It came with fever and headache. Besides taking medicine for flu, I was also recommended to take antibiotic, which should be consumed up to 10 tablets at the minimum. Supposing you get better within a few days and your antibiotic tables still remain, you have to use them up. The chances are that if you don't take them up (at least 10 tablets), the bacteria will possibly come back.

The risk is also that the bacteria become resistant to the antibiotic and then attack somebody else. ALWAYS finish a course of ABs.

Actually flu is caused by a virus so antibiotics are useless, perhaps it was prescribed to treat or prevent secondary infection from staph or strep such as in sore throat. You have to finish the dose otherwise it would or might devolpe a resistant strain of bacteria.

@louievill Yes, you are right but bacteria may attack when you are suffering from severe flu. So, the antibotics taken is for the bacteria in the flu. The worsening of the flue is due to bacteria.

You also need to finish it up or it won't work if the flu strike back and you decided to take it again.

That is just what I am telling someone near to me that he has to take all of the tablets because its a bad nail infection and now its clearing up but still to take the tablets right to the last one. Tablets have an awful acid like taste. Hope you are much better now by the way take care.

Why would you take antibiotics for the flu? Influenza is a virus. Antibiotics kill bacteria. Two totally different things.

There are two types of antibiotic. One for flu and the other for bacteria. That's what I learned.
