I didn't have the pleasure of watching Twin Peaks way back when. Oh, I may have caught an occasional glimpse, but nothing more.
Husband {who claims to have seen it way back when} assured me that I wouldn't need to have seen it previously in order to find enjoyment in the new series.
I think he was wrong.
I think I'm going to have to watch the originals to have any idea of what's going on. And even then, I'm not sure it's quite my cup of tea. I do tend to struggle with things which don't slot neatly into my perception of reality. Take musicals as an example. In which universe do people spontaneously burst into song and dance? Um, no. It doesn't happen. Harry Potter? I can cope with Harry because I think there's some truth to it; there are some truly weird people around, which reminds me I was going to write a post about them. I love horror films, but they only scare me when they have no supernatural elements, instead relying on psychology, madness and basic instinct to create fear.
And so, let's return to Twin Peaks ... Whoa! What the eff?? It's completely and utterly crazy. Bizarre accents, arms with brains, doppelgangers, violent and sudden deaths, fuzzy tellybox screens ... Madness. I'm quite sure that many of the original cast have returned, but lI couldn't tell you who.
Have you seen it? Weird.

Agent Cooper is back. And it still doesn't make sense.

@boiboing I like shows that end strangely - avoid the last episode of The Prisoner - possibly the weirdest TV episode of any show ever

I watched the original, but probably will not watch the new series. There was a lot of kooky weirdness in the original, originally, or initially. Then it got hooky-pooky-spooky, but by that time we were hooked. So even though my conscience didn't want to watch, I had to. Once they'd revealed Laura Palmer's killer, the interest began to wane. The original was weird, insane, intense and often reaching for some deeper meaning than it really held, hoping to be labelled "brilliant". But if you watch something from David Lynch, you have to accept that all of those things will be true, without any guarantee that it will be worth watching.

True. I may give the original series a try, if only to try to make sense {if at all possible!} of this twenty-five years later business. :)

New did watch Twin Peaks. Doesn't seem like something that would be funny, so no doubt not for me @Poppylicious

I didn't expect it to be funny, but I did want it to make a smidgeon of sense!

I've heard a lot about this show but never watched more than part of one episode. Arms with brains? Maybe I'll give it another try.

Well, it was more of a twiggy tree with a tiny speaking brain as its head. It called itself an arm though.
