What Do You Mean, Slow Down???

Scott Ganschow ( @teamfreak16 ) recently made a post on the old video arcade racing game Pole Position that reminded me of a funny story that happened when I was working at Marriott in the Banquets department.
There was a company that had booked a fun event in our ballroom for which they had rented various arcade-style games, including a racing game that consisted of four seated units that were linked together, so that you were actually racing onscreen against the other people seated next to you. Each person had a different colored car.
After most of the guests had left, the event's organizers let us staff members join in the fun, and I was pitted against three of the party guests who had remained. I was in the red car. It was exciting! I ran a good race, and I even won. I didn't celebrate openly, but after the game ended, while chattering excitedly about how it had gone, one of the men said, "Who was in the red car?? It just came out of nowhere!!" I pretended not to hear and just kind of chuckled to myself.
But this is the funny part: Another guy was complaining about some problem he had at using the brake. Astonished, I blurted out, "There's a BRAKE?" I'd kept my foot on the gas pedal the whole time and hadn't even considered that there might even BE a brake.
No wonder I won!

I just eased up on the gas when I needed to corner, which is how I drive on the highway. Braking at high speeds wears out your brakes!

I honestly didn't even think to feel around for a brake pedal, lol

Thank you! It was the first time I had ever played an arcade game that interacted with other games. It was fun!

You'd be good playing the standup version. No brake.

I played the sit-down version with another guy friend and beat him, but when we switched to manual transmission, he did much better. I can shift okay, but never have been too great with a clutch. Definitely can't be a *real* race-car driver!

@AliCanary So it seems. I don't know that it was instincts on my part though, as much as randomly hitting buttons and being lucky lol.

Yes, just like in real life, sometimes we just react instinctively, and our instincts are correct!

good race. congratulations. i saw on Fb too, about 3 men racing in bikes while pushing those toy cycles down a road race, and it was fun seeing these men pedal their cycles like in true setting.
