Into the top five I sail after a long day at the VA, having a pulmonary function test and a pulmonary appointment. The results were good, thank God: no sign of COPD or any lung obstruction, just bad asthma. They're going to try a new inhaler with me. I'll celebrate that great news with another song on my list of favorite songs with "song" in the title. #5: Cowboy Song - Thin Lizzy You'd better not be surprised by this one! Any time this band's name comes up I have to say it again: they should have been much, much, much bigger in the U.S. than they were. They were part of my second-ever rock concert, in 1978. What a terrific live band they were. You don't really expect a band from Ireland to do a song about being a cowboy and rodeo rider in the U.S., but they did. And oh, did it work. Splendidly. It was easy to believe that this thunderous bass playing singer from Ireland really thought the cowboy's life was the life for him. Picky Wedia says this song's title is the title of Phil Lynott's biography. Lynott was a presence and a half onstage. He had his demons (mostly heroin), and they killed him at a young age (he was 36). But oh, the legacy he left behind.
