Nothing Extravagant!

It was wonderful to be able to celebrate my Mom and Dad being married for 49 years yesterday (1st June) .
Because my Mom is attached to an oxygen machine, we couldn't take her out for their Anniversary, so all we could do was give them what they wanted on their special day.
What did they want? Pizza and a bottle of Red wine, and each others company
nothing extravagant, is what my sister and I were told!
We wanted to make them a fancy meal with Champagne, but they said no, thank you, and on their day, what they want is what they get! So, alrighty then.
We got my Mom flowers there is a gorgeous, I think, St. Joseph Lily, taking place of pride in the photo and Dad got Belgian chocolates. We also made a sticky toffee pudding for them.
Do you think Wedding Anniversaries need to be celebrated in an extravagant way? Or is simple sometimes wonderful?
Have a great weekend every one!

I think Wedding Anniversaries are just for the two people concerned. The only exception for us was a couple of years ago on our 50th - we went on a cruise with our son and daughter and their spouses. That was special, but generally we don't make a big thing of it.

I did not witness my parents celebrated their wedding anniversary. I think it all depends on the person. My grandparents love to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They cooked delicious foods and invite friends to come over to the house. But my parents, I think they are just being practical. So instead of spending their money for their anniversary, they just spend it with us.

@annierose , Yes, your parents do sound practical and it's nice they rather spend it with you. It's also good your grandparents celebrate it as they wish.

What matters is total involvement and that was there. That Lily is vibrant.

Now I understand why you commented that they celebrated at their way. We like to celebrate in an extravagant way. We had fancy dinners in the past, but we also had very simple appetizer dinners for our wedding anniversary. Only one thing is important, to be together.

Happy Anniversary to your parents and I wish them many more years of health and happiness together. The photos are beautiful. I'm happy they had a happy celebration.
We have always celebrated our anniversaries, too. Some entailed huge vacations away, and others quiet. To us, every day is wonderful being together.

That is sooo beautiful that your parents have been married that long. Ahh ... Amore!
I think extravagant ... or simple anniversaries are better. No extravagant! Never mind----what do I know about anniversaries---my marriage lasted 2 years
....
Hey, next year is your parents' 50th, baby! I say go out on that one!

When I was married, I always thought of what my wife would want and what would make her happy on our anniversary. If she was happy then I was happy. I think most men are like me when it comes to anniversaries?

Thank you so much @TiarasOceanView ! Yes, since she could not go out, all we could do was give her what she wanted and we are happy we were able to do that.

Congratulations to your parents on their wedding anniversary!
That is wonderful, and great that you and your sister gave them exactly what they wished for.
Too much fuss isn't always necessary, there are years when we have gone all out and other years that we have just played it cool and gone out for a nice dinner. My husband always sends me roses and brings me candy and a card, but that is just him.
I wish your parents many more years of wedded bliss.

my parents had their golden wedding anniversary in 1986. after 6 months though, my father left us. my mother followed him in 2009. the wedding anniversary was simple yet happy because all of us were there to celebrate with my parents.
happy wedding anniversary to your parents.

Many congratulations to them. 49 years so next year will be their golden wedding anniversary. If I were you with your sister I would start plotting and planning now. Sometimes the simple things to celebrate far out weigh the extravagance of an occasion. Be nice to get family involved, neighbours and their special friends. Obviously it depends on how well your mum is you don't want to tire her out! Lovely flowers by the way!

A wedding anniversary doesn't have to be extravagant to be perfect. What you did for your parents is perfect because its what they wanted. My husband and I will be celebrating our 33rd in another week. I don't think my kids will even remember it. It's always been something my husband and I celebrated alone, just the two of us. I'll give him a card and make a special dinner. I doubt we'll do any more than that.
