They Call Him Scooter

"Scooter." That's a cute kid's nickname, isn't it? If you remember The Muppet Show, Scooter was the backstage manager and assistant to Kermit the Frog. After tonight, we might have to think differently of "Scooter." Scooter Gennett, a Cincinnati Reds utility player, hit four home runs in the game tonight (6/6), becoming the first player in the history of baseball's first professional team to hit four homers in a game. This is rare. Consider that there have been 23 perfect games pitched in MLB history, but only 17 players have hit four home runs in one game. Gennett, who's a Cincinnati native, becomes the first player to hit four home runs in a game since Josh Hamilton (who, coincidentally, played for the Reds at one point) hit four while playing for the Texas Rangers in 2012. The Reds won the game against the struggling St. Louis Cardinals, 13-1. Congrats to Scooter! A CBS sports blurb about Gennett's feat:
Reds' infielder Scooter Gennett hit four homers against the Cardinals on Tuesday night. He's just the 17th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a g...

Meh, No, seriously awesome, bet he is a great kid, but damn my Cardinals are off this year. Thanks for writing this though, really cool story and hope has more to come as long as not against you know.

i really don't know what's going on with them this year. Of course, if you look at the NL central it eems nobody wants it, because only the Pirates are "out" (which is what they get for having a player suspended for PEDs). I think the core is getting older and it's time to refresh.

@FourWalls Yeah, really funny division this year, so good last season even though Cubs blew everyone out. Most were close to .500 or above. This year the division is so sorry in Terms of Yankees Boston BS. Which makes it fun at least, better than the NBA where I think Golden State is going to go 16- 0 like a damn football season in the playoffs. Anyway, I think Cubs and or Cardinals can turn it around with their farm talent. Not sure though. They both be baffling me. Reds and Milwaukee have a shot big time and do not see Pirates doing anything with the problems they have had.

@crossbones27 -- as much as I am an NL central fan I'd love to see the Astros stay hot and play in the World Series (against, oh, the Cubs, maybe? ). The guy who sponsored my college internship is a longsuffering Astros fan, so he (and all the longsuffering Astros fans) deserve it, just like the Cubs fans last year.

Did his parents name him after Phil (Scooter) Rizzuto of Yankees fame. Holy Cow 4 homers in one game

No worse than "Chipper." Seriously, that's impressive. Congratulations, Scooter!
