Older Furniture Might Not Be As Good A Deal As You Think

Summer is a great time to get in and renovate or buy new and/or different furniture for your living space. I found some interesting information about furniture. Furniture produced before 2005 may have some ingredients that can be hazardous to humans as well as causing fires. Formaldehyde was used to protect from mold and bacterial contamination. This older furniture might also contain PBDEs which help to prevent fires but it may be toxic. If there is a tag on it saying it meets TB-117 flame retardant standards then you may be safe. Best to call and check with the manufacturer. Buying from companies that use horsehair and wool instead of foam is a good idea. Although they might be a bit more expensive external upholstery made with finer materials is best. You could even reupholster if you like what you have. If that isn't an option just realize that over time these toxins work their way out of the furniture and can settle in household dust. It might be a good idea to invest in an air filter and also be sure you are washing your hands before and after you prepare foods.

I think that'll mean we have to ask when the couch has been manufactured when we purchase
Thanks for the tip

Or examine it for tags and see if there is a date.

Do you clean or change the filter in the filter often? I need to clean the filter in the a/c here.
