Bridge Over Untroubled Water

This morning, I went on a short, 7.5 mile bike ride, which is nothing, really. Too short for my liking, actually, but it's only my third ride of the year, and I was short on time. Still, it beat not riding, and it all adds up. In fact, I now have a whopping 18 miles for the year, and am ranked 2088 on Bikejournal.com. The ride itself was uneventful, other than I wigged out big time because there was a big snake on the bike path on the climb back into Manitou. Yuck. I did manage to take a photo. This particular bike path follows a creek down to Colorado Springs. This is my bike on a bridge that crosses the creek. No snakes in the photo. Thank goodness. I probably would have ran for it if there were.

Love the scenery and totally not a short ride, lol! That'd be a long ride for me hehe.

@teamfreak16 Whoa that is crazy. How many hours does that usually take or you go with the flow, no rush?

Wait until I build up to the 25-35 mile rides that I like to do.

@infatuatedbby - A 25 miler usually takes me two, two and a half hours. The most I've ever done in one day was 57 miles. Took me about five hours.

One of my employees is an avid mountain biker (which is kind of an oxymoron to say mountain bike in flat Florida), and he usually rides 3-4 times per week. I'll have to ask him tomorrow at work how long his rides are each time. There is a big group of them that ride after work, so I imagine they probably don't go too far before it starts to get dark. But I imagine they do longer rides on the weekends.

@teamfreak16 We do have some great trails, but certainly no mountains! haha One of the most popular trails in the state is a place called Santos, which is about 30 minutes south of where I live. People love to mountain bike there.

I've read that there is actually some good mountain biking in Florida. I'm just trying to ride myself back into cycling shape right now. I plan on doing some actual mountain biking this summer.

Sweet, and this made me laugh. Snakes do not even scare me anymore. Enough of them running the country. Awesome picture and if I lived there, would be doing that everyday also. People need to ride bikes more or just do something that does not involve cars. Sounds fun.

@crossbones27 - There is a site called Unamerican.com. It's run by a punk rocker. He sells subversive stickers designed to make people think. Trying to make a small change for the better. Check it out sometime. I've bought a lot of stickers from him.

Oh I do love a bike ride, but sold my bike about three years ago. There's nothing quite like the sun and breeze on your face! Nice photo above.

@teamfreak16 I'm getting older now and not so confident with traffic any more. I sold it to a young woman I know. And the funds financed part of my recent holiday!

@Marty1 - I usually ride on nice winter days, and usually through September at least. I actually just ride to certain turnaround points without worrying about the mileage. That will add up. Even the very short five mile rides to the store add up if I do enough of them.

No, I've never wanted to race. I used to do a lot of charity rides though.

@teamfreak16 I expect the snake was relieved to get away from the iron-horse in one piece too lol

Nice lean photo. As for the snakes, as Indiana Jones said, "Snakes, why have there gotta be snakes?"

Like I said, they all add up. It's still always a bit disheartening at the beginning, like "That's all?"
