Blackout!

We were sitting in the back yard last night, beer in hand, watching a police helicopter circle our area. Then suddenly all lights went out which sent us scrambling for candles.
I normally have dozens of candles but not where I could easily find them. Eventually we managed to get enough as well as some flashlights. It was past our bed time and the lights did not come back on.
I hate sleeping with candles as I always fear a fire. However, two hours later the lights came on and of course woke everyone up. Then the lights went out again and on again for for the rest of the night. No sleep so very tired today. Do you get blackouts and how do you deal with them?

Put the candles in the sink. One in a bathroom, one in the kitchen. We had a blackout yesterday (while talking to Parker Rose from myLot).
Someone here was in the shower when the lights went out. It was a confusing time, but all is well! Not a fan of the storms that cause these issues @Freelanzer

This one was caused by some problem with an underground cable. I too had a candle in every room that was in use

I always fear a fire too and make sure all candles are out regardless. We had a black out a couple of months ago due to power outage. Not fun but the kids had flashlights and we just went to bed.

Everything is so quiet when the electricity goes. No humming, buzzing and of course no lights

And I thought it only happens in parts of the Philippines lol especially in our rural areas. If you use candles, I would suggest if I may to put them in medium sized but shallow cans so incase they fall it would not roll, yes away from curtains, it would help you sleep more soundly
Important parts of our house have solar lighting cause I got tired of frequent outages during typhoon seasons.

@Freelanzer yes its easy to make using ebay bought materials, it's easier and safer than maintenaning a small gasoline generator

It doesn't happen often but this one was the longest I have experienced. The solar lights is a great idea.

Blackouts aren't frequent but this one came without any warning or advisory

@Freelanzer
That will frustrate me, especially if you have to work online.

It only happens every once and awhile here and if it is at night I just go to bed and make sure all the light switches are off so they don't all come on in the middle of the night when the power comes back on.

I forgot to turn the bedroom light out so I was just falling asleep when the light came back on - a real jolt.

We don't get the blackouts at all here.
Glad you had the candles and the flash lights.
That reminds me I must get both of those things.
I have a small flashlight but it is too small you know.

They say it was an underground cable failure - whatever that is
