I was asked by @DeborahDiane to give a little bit about my books. This is the back cover copy for Scarred. Jo-Ann Carter is a disillusioned young woman who decides the best thing for her is to leave. Leave school, where she has been for seven years since the tragic death of her parents, which left her an orphan at the age of ten. Leave England and a society that forgot all about her. Leave everything she knows, except her best friend, who insists on going with her - plunging them both into the dangers found on the high seas, with pirate battles, slave markets, and the hardships found in Colonial America. Quentin Alexander, Earl of Thurgarton, learns he is Jo-Ann's guardian through a message from the headmistress of the school she attended. With permission from the Crown, he determines to bring Jo-Ann and her companion back to England. Both Jo-Ann and Quentin are determined on seeing their objectives met: she to stay in the Colonies, and he to take her back. Who will win the battle of wills, and at what cost? This is the first in the Colonial America series first published in 2012 and published in 2016 in second edition. It is available on Amazon.

I took that picture with a cell phone from a Tall Ship festival. It needed a bit of photo shopping done on it to make it what it is now. All the festival flags had to be taken off and the US flag is hidden behind the title. There was also satellite navigation on the mast that had to be taken off.

@arthurchappell Thank you. I didn't do the photoshopping. The people who worked on the cover did.

I am left wondering what the age difference is between the protagonist and the antagonist, and if romance somehow comes to play a part.

Seven years age difference. It does, but it isn't a romance novel.

It must have taken you a lot of time researching historical facts to give authenticity for the setting in your novel.

It did. I learned most of what I know about writing while I was writing and researching Scarred. It took 32 years for me to get it published.

@josie_ I didn't work on it the whole time. There were a number of years I set it aside to raise my kids. I was also reading everything I could about what publishers expect and look for from new authors. I hoped to have it accepted from a traditional publisher, but that didn't happen. I soon learned that most traditional publishers are looking for a following from new authors. They don't want to commit to something that won't sell. My royalties have been slow, but I have gotten some. I'm hoping this last book will boost sales.

@just4him _Your comment surprise me in an inspiring way. 32 years! Most would have given up. I believe many mylot members (myself included) have some aspiration about getting published. Your's is a fine example that it is never too late.

@sueznewz2 Thanks. That photo was originally taken from my cellphone. It had to have some work done with it - photoshop, so it would be authentic to the era of the novel. It was a tall ship festival here and the ship had festival flags all over it and a satellite navigation on the mast. So it's been doctored a bit. Even the US flag is hiding behind the title.

I must have mentioned it before, that I like reading books about life in the 18th and 19th centuries - so this one will be definitely just up my street.
