Got a Bit More Weeding Done tonight and Planted Seeds, Plus 2 Extra Pics

Through the recent years I've been weeding my side garden every year only to have most of the weeds return. I found out that I needed to plant something to keep the weeds at bay. I have a bag of seeds from several years ago, but I also recently bought another bag of similar seed. I got one section weeded a few weeks ago and poured some seed from each bag on the freshly hoed ground.
The second image on top shows that seed starting to sprout. The first image on the lower row shows the work I did tonight with weeding and spreading seed. If you could see the whole area there you'd see the right side loaded with the tall grass which I consider weeds.
The top photo is a bright pink peony, or at least it's brighter than this picture shows it to be. A while ago Maluse shared about her white peony but at that time mine had yet to bloom. That flowering plant is located on the side of my garage of all places and I forget to go over there to enjoy it's colors.
Janet, jabo, shared or I should say explained how she grows her hanging baskets and I wanted to show her the one I purchased for this year. That is the last photo. The pink with white insides are the Verbena I referred to on her post. I like these best because they are ones you don't have to deadhead to get continual blooms.
I asked for today off on vacation because I thought my cousin was hosting an open house as his mother died a few weeks ago and all his siblings that I've not seen for forty years were coming home at the same time. I didn't find out until last night that they couldn't get any flights until tonight, so they're having that get-together without me tomorrow evening as I'm working.
I will be attending the funeral mass at noon, before work and will go early enough to see if I remember anyone.

@MarshaMusselman As our garden is not flat, I want to create a sort of green staircase covered with flowers. I will show a photo when the flowers are in bloom.

@LadyDuck It sounds cool, I'm sure it will work out well. The fun will be trying to figure out which flowers to use to get the desired effect.

You'll have to show us your results when you're done and then after they've been growing for a while. It will be interesting to see whether your idea will make it look like one large plant too. But, whichever way you do it, I'm sure it will be pleasing to the eye.

Do I need to dig up part of them from the dirt? I never thought to move some of them to a better spot as they were planted there long before I moved in.
Our front yard used to have a large bush on either side of our porch. We took those out within the first five years along with some other evergreen bushes that I dislike and other things. Then nine years ago we needed to have a ramp built for my husband at that time and also got a nice front porch out of the deal. I've since been working on putting flowers in several places around my yard.
The red flowers in two clumps in the lower window are dianthus which I also like a lot. They come up every year which makes them better yet.

@DianneN Okay, cool. I have a spot in mind where I'd like to plant them near the corner of the house.

@MarshaMusselman All your flowers look lovely, and you certainly have a huge clump of peonies. You do have to dig them all up, and can divide them with a knife or even the shovel. Just from looking, you will be able to get many more plants out of them.

It actually worked out okay after all. One cousin was going to host it at his home and one of his siblings felt that would put him out and that they should do it at a hall or something, but nothing was ever followed through, so the luncheon following the mass was the end of the visits with everyone. I was able to eat a bit at the luncheon since my sister talked me into cutting to the front of the line.

Whether or not I'm doing well keeping the weeds gone will be determined as the summer progresses. If all the seeds do well then that will be half the battle. Problem might be that we're having very hot temps right now and with me working both jobs I don't have enough time each day to make sure they all stay watered.
I hope that however much watering I do get in will be enough to get them to continue to grow and flourish.

@MarshaMusselman I know what you mean. It's been in the 90s and very humid the last couple of days. I haven't seen anyone outside doing anything in this weather. But now I'm beginning to get visitors since they love my a/c! lol I do hope those seedlings survive!

@MarshaMusselman I need to go do the same thing in the garden. My husband is good at keeping the space between the rows very clean from weeds so it looks great at a glance. But those little weeds surrounding the plants IN the rows is more tedious.

Thanks. I hope to have that garden full of wildflowers and other types by summers end. Then it will help eliminate my needing to do so much weeding at least in that bed for a bit. I'm sure I'll still need to maintain around each flower.

Thanks, I like it. It got a bit dried out this week even though I did water it earlier in the week. The petunias look a bit ragged, but I deadheaded quite a few earlier today and they should be fine soon.
