Both my legs were caught up in cramps. Just could not sleep. Had to get up and walk around which was quite painful as walking is the only immediate solution to get rid of those cramps. I did not get back to sleep but had tea and here I have been. What do you do for cramps?

The easy solution for us when we have cramps in our legs is to just pull the thumb of the feet many times. You woke up so early.

Normally if you apply a heating pad where the cramp is the pain will disappear within minutes

When you have to get out of it posthaste getting that pad will take time but yes later that will really help. I just consulted my doctor and he prescribed Evion 400 capsules Thanks for that. I am now drinking a lot of water too (lol) I do get cramps but today was awful

I like to try to prevent them. I eat and drink things that keep my electrolytes balanced. That is calcium, sodium, magnesium and potassium. If I have one in my legs I have to stand and put all of my weight on the affected leg until the muscle relaxes.

We all have our own tricks. I agree with you. Eating the right kind of food helps. I am on homoeopathy and I take those tissue remedies that are like supplements.

It happened to me more often when I was pregnant. My leg would have cramps at midnight suddenly. Usually husband would massage my leg and soon the cramps would be gone soon. People say it is a sign of lacking of the calcium. Perhaps you can try to take some calcium to see whether it will get better. If your legs don't have cramps often, I think it is not a big problem.

@allknowing Perhaps you shall also keep your legs warm when you fall asleep.

@youless I do that too. But I just do not know how this became so severe today. I am taking some supplements now as recommended by my doctor. I just called him up

I take calcium everyday. As I have commented elsewhere here I am ok with my diet. May be I should consume more water as my BP tablets takes away sodium and dehydrates me. Massaging is also a good thing. After some time they disappear. But while they last the feeling is awful.

I think that my Mom told me something that might help. She swears by tonic water!

@allknowing The reason tonic water helps is because of quinine in it. It is good, unless you are allergic to it. Yes, the dehydration is a big health risk.

Drinking water does help as cramps are a cause of dehydration

You poor thing. I hate it when this happens. I do find gradually placing my feet on the floor usually helps.

I find it happens when I don't drink enough. I also try to eat enough potassium, calcium. I am sure I get enough salt without trying. I will have to see what has magnesium in it.
