Feeling like the lady of the house!

We’ve had a few days of rather stormy weather, with strong winds and heavy downpours. As a result the paeonies in our new garden have taken a battering; with their tall stems and heavy heads of flowers they were very susceptible. I went round afterwards propping them up, shaking off the water and tying them to supports, but some of the stalks were broken.
I don’t usually cut flowers from the garden because I prefer to enjoy them in situ, and I never buy flowers for the house, but since the broken stems could obviously not be repaired I decided I might as well cut off the remaining flowers and bring them indoors.
I collected quite an armful of gorgeous scented paeonies (I didn’t even know paeonies could be scented) plus a couple of roses and sprays of orange blossom and put them in a vase. It made me feel like ‘the lady of the house’ going round cutting flowers from the garden for the dining table!

@Fleura I treat myself most weeks ... or if Husband's paying for the shopping that week, he inadvertently treats me!!

That is a lovely arrangement, I do love peonies. I think I will go and check how mine are doing. Do you find a lot of ants on yours? I find mine seem to really attract them.

@Fleura I think that it is common here not just me, I was taking pictures of peonie buds the other day in a garden in another state and it had an ant on it, just like I get at home.

Thank you, I do too. I had some before, deep red, pale pink and ones called 'Bowl of Beauty' with pink outer petals and creamy insides. None of them were scented though.
I haven't noticed ants on them, although we do have plenty of ants in other places. Are there any aphids around? Sometimes you get an infestation and then ants move in and 'farm' them, which is a real pain because the ants defend the aphids from the ladybirds and other predators who you were hoping would wipe them out!
