It took almost a year

I am worn out. Please let me retire.

It took me almost a year but I've finally been financially able to get a couple of new tires for my truck. I bought the truck ('99 Ford Ranger Sport) in August of last year (2016) and I had to have the master cylinder replaced right away. I don't remember exactly how much that set me back, but I've finally got to a place in my finances where I can have two of the tires replaced, which I did yesterday. I was amazed at how much just two new tires improved the ride. The other two tires are scheduled to be replaced next month, if all goes well. The tech told me the tires on the truck were 9 years old! He said he wouldn't be allowed to touch them if they were just one year older. This is news to me and I wonder if that's a law or just company policy. I guess it won't matter to me anyway, after the next two new tires are installed. It's a great relief to finally be able to get this done. Are you relieved when you accomplish a long-term goal?

Tires are so outrageously expensive. I'm glad you managed to start on this goal.

Mine were a little over $100 apiece. I went to Discount Tire. Doable for me as long as I take it in small chunks. I've been saving a little each month.

Absolutely and you reminded me of a story i lived by buying a car from a little old lady who only drove it once a week to church...

Never heard anything about the age of tires, only about their condition. If they are in good condition you can put 50 years old tires in Europe... I am happy that you managed to replace them, it certainly makes a difference. I think that I should better not plan anymore long-term goals, but it depends what you call long-term : less than 1 year is short-term, and I am relieved each time I reach a goal.

The age of the tires must be a company policy then. I'd never heard of it either. Short-term goals for me are what I'd like to accomplish this week or no later than this month. Every January I jot down five or six goals for that year, I haven't really set goals for more than that. I started writing down goals in the 1980s by first writing a description of my "ideal situation". I haven't done that in a very long time, but I do continue with the shorter goals, and now and then a longer goal to take more than a month.

Safer, oh yes! I'll be very happy to complete the set next month. It's an old truck though, so it still has many flaws, but new tires are a big step forward.
