Why do they use flashlights?

Lately I have been thinking about lots of trivial questions. It must be that I´m relaxing after my party. Today, as I watched TV the several forensic reruns we all know by heart, I wondered why do the good guys always enter a house with their flashlights on. When I need light in a room at my house, I turn on the lights. When and if I go to a dark tunnel, I´d use the kid of light that miners use (that leave their hands free). So, why use a miserable flashlight? Now, I confess that even with that poor equipment, they win. They must be marvels: they go with their small flashlights and ancient guns while the bad guys always have machine guns. And they always win after an exciting hour (including commercials)

I've never noticed that they have their flashlights on. BUt, it could be that they are walking into a strange environment, they don't know where the light switches are.

I have one in my night table, in case the light goes off in an earthquake.

I always wondered that, too. Another think I wonder is why they hold them that way, in a fist even with their heads. That would be awfully uncomfortable for me and limit the angles I could aim the light at. I always hold my flashlight with my thumb on top and my fingers wrapped around it. That way I can comfortably point it anywhere. If I held it like they did I would have a problem pointing it down and to the side and probably other angles, too.

So true! But they are the same characters that have the woman cops race to get the bad guys in stilettos

I watched two episodes of "Closed Case" yesterday and I hardly ever watch it but I did not see them use flash lights in those two episodes. You are right though they always manage to win.

@marguicha I was just thinking that they might use flash lights to keep us all in suspense and make it more mysterious also?

They can't touch light switches because there may be fingerprints.

They can see in the dark corners and shadows. They can see a tint spot of blood ... stuff like that..

Haha. Isn't Hollywood lovely. Although they might be able to get it done quicker if they had headlamps on.

It is! And all the good characters know chemistry, forensics and how to get a bad guy (to say the least)
