Affter reading a story on The New York Times website this morning abou tthe shooting that took place earlier today. I am appalled but probably not for the reason you think. Let me first say, yes it is sad that someone opened fire on the congressional baseball practice, and yes it is sad that one of them is in critical condition. I am not making light of a horrific shooting by someone who was probably a deranged individual. I hope he is able to make a complete recovery, along with the others who were injured. But I am kind of appalled that congress has a sports team. WHY? Why is this a good use of their time and or funds. And who do they play? I mean is it weird to anyone else that they have a congress baseball team? I do hope that the injured are doing better this evening. Do not misread my questioning the congress' sports team as that I don't. I'm just a little perturbed that there is a sports team with the cogress members on it to begin with.

They have been playing this game for 100 years and it is for charity.

There are plenty of other things that are for chairty. There are plenty of other things they could be doing for charity. PRacticing baseball is not something our congress needs to be doing when there are other things they could be doing with their time.

Congressman Steve Scalise is the congressman of my former district in Metairie Louisana. He is a high school graduate of my alma mater Archibishop Rummel High School in Metairie which is a suburb of New Orleans.

And I'm sure he's a stand up guy. But that doesn't mean it's still stupid that there's a congressional baseball team. Just because he was from Lousiana doesn't make him a good guy. Yeah it sucks that he got shot, and I'm sorry he did, but that wasn;t the point of my rant.

From what I understand they play for charity and all the proceeds go to underprivileged children. Its a once a year event

They could just as easily have a charity dinner or auction. Something that doesn't take practicing time. To me the fact that there is a baseball team to begin with is just silly. But that is my opinion.

Anyone who mistakes this post as bad because of the shooting, is dumb. Period. Its definitely sad though. And yes why do they have a team.

Okay I am not the only one who thinks its a waste for them to be practicing for baseball, when I am sure that there are other things they could be doing with there time that might actually you know help the country.
