Arthur Dent is having the worst day. His house is about to be demolished to make way for a new bypass. It's about to get even worse, however. His friend, Ford Prefect, a field researcher for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who is stranded on Earth, informs him that the planet is about to be destroyed by a fleet of Vogon ships, in order to make room for a new intergalactic highway.
With no time to spare, Ford hitches a ride for he and Arthur, only to get jettisoned into space to die. They are rescued by a super spaceship, the Heart of Gold, captained (stolen) by Zaphod Beeblebrox, former President of the Galaxy. And so begins, for Arthur Dent, the adventure of a lifetime.
In the meantime, you'll learn the importance of towels, you'll discover the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (the best drink in existence,) and finally find out the shocking answer to life, the universe, and everything.
Such is author Douglas Adams' 1979 novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
This book is hilarious, combining science fiction with British humor. Everytime I read it, I crack up. It's so silly that it's easy to do so.
The book has always been popular, selling 250,000 copies in the first three months, and retains a fervent cult following today.
I highly recommend it (unless you don't care much for science fiction or British humor.)
Don't forget your towel!

It would actually work based on a thing I read on Facebook, but would simply baffle anyone that hasn't read the books. It would be funny, though.

I read an interesting theory about the actual meaning, in computer code, about the meaning of "42." Douglas Adams was very clever.

@pgntwo - Apparently, Douglas Adams had a great interest in computer programming. 42 basically, in computer terms, means whatever you want it to mean. From what I read, anyway.

It was originally written as a radio show in 12 parts, or "Fits", most of which can be found on YouTube. Flying: learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
