I just got an email update from the City of Dallas.
They are spraying from yesterday to the end of today in many areas that tested positive for West Nile virus.
I was out on the front porch picking up newspapers that were blown out of their bag in the wind all over our front lawn and the next door neighbor's front lawn on both sides of us. When I came back from dumping all that stuff in the recycle blue tote, I swatted a small mosquito against the front door with the palm of my hand and it was as bloody as a nose bleed. I had to wash up good and take a hot soapy clean up rag to that stain I created by killing me one bad mosquito.
I know it is good that they are spraying in Dallas but I have to remain indoors during that time. I don't want to inhale whatever that stuff is they use to kill those nasty blood suckers.
Here is a link to a most recent article on the subject of West Nile virus in Dallas:
The City of Dallas actively monitors for mosquito borne diseases by collecting mosquitoes for testing weekly during their active months. The City conducts mosquito control activities by monitoring known breeding sites, and applying larvicide and stocking g

I hadn't heard of West Nile in years. I can remember the spraying here in the LA area.

I do not know from where the West Nile virus migrates from or to only that it does happen here in Dallas, every year about this time of the year.

@lookatdesktop I fully agree, I spray my skin when I have to work in the garden. I cannot say that I like chemicals, but it's always better than to be sick.

It is good that they do follow up with the communities by checking things in any given area, where the problem is worse but even in areas where no mosquitoes have even been reported. The threat of mosquito born infection is very real and must be kept under control.

You may be able to benefit from using both bug zappers and those citronella candles I heard about that tend to make mosquitoes go away. Have you ever heard of that? Does your property lie somewhere near a large body of water? They love areas that have lots of standing water, even a doggie water dish or a bird bath.

They dont spray out here. In fact most of the county has no spray signs posted.
But I get bit by something every single time I go outside.
Im not sure west Nile ever went anywhere. They've been talking about it in the south every year without fail.
Im not worried about it. If I spent time worrying about all those things id never get anything done.

I am concerned about getting bit so just in case I have my own supply of deep woods OFF spray. If only I could locate it.
