Balloon Festivals are Exciting

When I was working many years ago I had the best experience helping set up the huge balloons at a yearly Balloon Festival. The company I was working for got involved in many charitable things. I was there as the huge balloon was loaded on a truck and we all rode with it to the field where the activity was going to take place. We had to unload the folded balloon and place it on a huge tarp on the field. We had to slowly unfold the balloon and fit it onto the tarp. Once it was ready to continue we got the propane heaters and put them into place and then we blew up the balloon. That was so awesome as I actually was walking inside the balloon after it was inflated. It was huge in there. As the day went on and the festival got under way, we all had to help the balloon lift up and the people in the basket got a ride that was amazing. So many people stop when they see the balloons floating in the air but I was lucky enough to actually set one up.

Colorado Springs had a balloon festival for decades. The city wouldn't cut it a break, so they moved it to a city that would. Too bad. It was so cool.

I wonder if the Pocono's is still having it. Shawnee Resort on the Delaware had them every year.

@prashu228 - The city wouldn't give it a break in costs.

It was so much fun and something I never thought I would do. I am glad I did. I do not think I would ever go up in one though.

I've never been inside a hot air balloon, but I once stood next to one as it was inflated. Pretty cool process to watch! I've also ridden in a balloon, but not very high, as it was tethered to the ground by a long rope. Probably didn't go more than 100 feet in the air. But it was still an amazing experience.

@ramapo17 I would love to actually go for a real ride in a hot air balloon. The thrill of not exactly knowing where the wind will blow you is enticing to me.

@moffittjc Better you than me. I would like to know exactly where I am going and when I am going to get off.

Wow, you are pretty brave. I wouldn't go in one unless I knew there was no way it would take me away to the far beyond.

I love when I can see them when I am riding down the road. Lots of cars stop and watch them.

@ramapo17 I've never stopped to watch them, but they are fun to see floating on the air.

That must of been great fun! New Jersey has a huge summertime balloon festival up by Readington which is one of the largest in North America Nancy, maybe you heard about it when you were a NJ resident? I went to a barbecue one summer and we saw them from the person's home that was hosting our get together. Awesome!

I never heard of Readington. Where is that? I grew up and lived most of my life in northern Jersey.

@dgobucks226 I am familiar with that area as my grandson went to Ramapo College. I use to live close to 80 and 206.

@ramapo17 That is in Sussex County Nancy. Raritan Valley Community College is close by. Somerville and Bridgewater are close by. Off Route 287 or Route 202.

Out company does a lot of fun things on the outside and mostly charity work. That was Home Depot and I worked there for 20 years and my daughter is there for 26 years so far.

That is not something I ever wanted to do. I do not like being that high without something around me.
