As an Oakland Raider fan, I just read some great news in the SFGate, the website for the San Francisco Chronicle.
Vic Tafur, the Chronicle's Raiders beat writer, reports that the team has signed starting quarterback Derek Carr to a five year, $125 million dollar contract extension, the richest contract in NFL history.
According to Tafur, much of the contract is back loaded, which will allow the Raiders to be able to resign team stars such as Khalil Mack and offensive lineman Gabe Jackson.
Carr is the first quaterback in league history to throw more than 80 touchdown passes while throwing less than 40 interceptions in his first three seasons.
While there are those who will say that nobody should be paid that much money to play a game, and while they are, in a way, right, keep in mind that that game is a business. Carr is worth that money to the Raiders. He puts butts in the seats and sells merchandise, of which the team receives a percentage. The Raiders (and every other professional sports team) are in the business of winning games, something which Carr has demonstrated he is very good at.
As the saying goes, I am as pleased as punch!
Congratulations, Derek! Go Raiders!
Derek Carr said he wanted to be a Raider for life, and took a huge step in that direction Thursday morning by agreeing to the richest contract in NFL history.

Looks like the Raiders are finally putting together a nucleus for the future! Derek Carr is a good sign. Quarterbacks are hard to come by, especially ones with an upside like Carr. Also, Mack is one of the best defensive players in the NFL, a must sign. Good job Raiders, looks like your getting serious about making it to the Super Bowl.

Reggie McKenzie has proven to be quite the GM. I'm happy!

I hope Carr can get by on $25 million a year.

He might need to pawn a few things to get by once in awhile.
