Marriage Seems Horrific? Bye Bye House!

I was watching a game show, and a young lady was trying to win some money. When the host of the show asked her what she would do if she won a good amount of money, she said that she and her boyfriend were trying to save money to buy a house, so she would use some money for that, and then maybe the rest of the money would go to their possible wedding. The boyfriend was in the audience and was grinning like a Cheshire cat at the mention of any money she made going toward the buying of a house. However when she mentioned the words "possible wedding" the boyfriend pulled such an ugly face! He actually seemed quite horrified at the prospect of maybe having to marry her! I thought to myself, just how rude of her boyfriend to have pulled a face like that! And while cameras were on his face! That was rude, Right? And then I thought, so, he is happy to buy a house with her, with her supplying most of the cash for it, but she isn't good enough to marry? I mean, does that make sense to you? Someone being happy to buy a property with someone, but looks horrified at having to settle down with that same someone? If she got to see the show after she had been on it and she saw the face her boyfriend pulled, I hope she decided to not by a house with him and that she in fact told him goodbye! I would have done that, I would have told him, sorry, if marriage to me seems horrific, then we won't be buying a house together! Do you agree?

Maybe the boyfriend was trying to be silly on cameras?? But still, it wasn't nice of him to do that face in front of people. As for the lady, she should have mention a wedding before a house..

@atoz1to10 , yes, he might have been, but it was in bad taste of him. Yes, a couple can save for a house but then should be aware that marriage could be the next step.

@bluesa Yes... it's always good to be able to buy/build a house together after getting married. So did the lady win the money?

@atoz1to10 , yes, she won some money that could indeed help with their future. Though if she saw his face after the live show I am not sure what that future was.

I fully agree and according to the reaction you describe, this is a marriage that would surely not last long.

Yes, Anna, I am afraid he might just refuse to marry her and only want to live together @LadyDuck , I think if she sees his reaction she will have big decisions to make.

@bluesa It's better before than later, she would not be happy with this guy.

@LadyDuck that is true, Anna. Better he showed his true colours.

It was not fair on the part of her boy friend to behave in this manner.

@bluesa Yes, it shows that he might have not liked the idea of getting married.

Yes, @dpk262006 it was very rude of him to pull a face at the idea of marrying her.

I certainly agree! I'd ditch that rat immediately. He is the male version of a gold digger, and the marriage would never last.

@DianneN , absolutely! I couldn't believe his cheek to pull a face like that, Dianne.

@ridingbet , that is very wise advice from you. I do have someone who is puzzling me...and yes, I might have to move on too. :)

@bluesa yes, and you too must move on, if you have a guy in your life as that guy.

Sadly so many young couples live together, buy homes together, even have a family without bothering to get married. The boyfriend doesn't sound like a 'keeper' to me.

@BettyB , yes, this puzzles me, why would he want to buy a house with her, but pull an ugly face at the mention of marriage. I suppose if both people didn't want marriage it would be fine, but I think she wasn't aware of his aversion to it.

@BettyB I whole heartedly agree with you. Best to know he is not as invested as she before it goes any further.

@bluesa She'll find out the truth. I just hope its before she's in so deep that it takes years for the hurt to go away.

@Debscrochet , yes, it could be. Either way his reaction spoke volumes. Okay to buy a property, but marriage would be a problem.
